Recalls? (Honda)

My mom has been having a issue with her 97’ accord stalling during driving. I found a Recall on the ign switch offered in 2003 that describes the exact problem. Anyone know if I can still get the car recalled for this problem considering its 10 years later? I never needed to before so I dont know if they have a time limit on when to get these things done or not?

I don’t think there’s a time limit on recalls, but don’t quote me.

Thanks Cossey. I am going to have to call them with the VIN anyways so I guess I’ll find out either way. Figured someone would have better input then my guess.

Recall is for life , call dealer with vin and they can tell ya if its been done or not . Also check the m.p.f.I relay under dash . Or also called main relay they make the car do weird shit as well .

If it stalls when the car is warm and restarts when it cools off the chances are its the main relay. If the car died and will run when you hold the key half way to start then it’s the ignition switch. My 99’ Accord just had this problem…cost $54 for the switch. Replaced it and traded the POS in before something else left me stranded.

Yea I figured the solder in the main relay may be making a bad connection. But decided to run a recall check on it for the hell of it and ran across the ign switch recall.

Yup the connections in the relay cool and become more conductive. As it heats they lose the connection. Shes a about 25 min from me and I am to lazy to drive there. Shes going to run it by Honda tomorrow.

Car does start back up after it stalls. She said it takes a few cranks to get it fired back up sometimes.

Called Honda today. They said the recall was already completed. I looked at the car and found the ign switch was the prroblem and it still had the oem Honda rivet bolts in the ignition (these need to be removed to get the sw out). Looks like Hondas getting a visit by me Monday. Went and resoldered the main relay anyways.

Recall is forever. This is something I will have to deal with too. The 04 TSX is known for the lights in the stereo and climate buttons to go out. Its a TSB and not a recall though, so Im hoping to get them to goodwill the cost of the parts atleast. Anyone have experience with Northeast Acura? Sorry to thread jack Reckone.

No biggy. I have bought parts from Northeast, but never had to deal with there service department. Not many Acura dealers in this area.

This is a common problem on those accords. Even if the recall has been done they will replace it again. They use the tapered head breaking screws that come as a kit.

Some one was telling me they replace those tapered bolts with 8mm hex headed ones after recall.

Northeast sucks. Bought my rsx there.

There a trq to yield security bolt , we have used them often . The bolt head shears off at proper trq so that it can’t easily be taken apart .
