Recarpting a 240SX

Has anyone ever done this? I want to redo my interior with black carpet
because it would look much nicer, and the car could do quite nicely with
some new carpet. The problem is the stock carpet is moulded, and any
carpet I would buy would come in a roll and be flat. Is there a way to get
the carpet to take the shape of the floorpan?

Any help would be appreciated.

If we get some good info here I will move it to the FAQ section.

i just typed in “nissan 240sx carpet” into google and 1st on the list is:

http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Carpets/Nissan/240SX/ACC3532/27393

but from the few liks i clicked, i only found coupes…probably the same thing anyway though

I don’t want to buy a moulded carpet. There is a place that sells moulded
carpet for the 240 for $100usd. I just want to take carpet from a roll, and
form it to fit my car so that I can have the same kind of carpet right back
to the trunk.

its not as easy as it sounds, and those 100 dollar moulded carpets fit like SHIT, my buddy has one and it was 169 us and it isnt even moulded properly it sticks up everywhere and looks like compleate ass, he even used carpet taape to try and get it to sit flat and it dosent sit flat at all.

buy a new oem carpet off courtesy nissan and dye it black

good call scott…
i have carpet dye at my work too

I know a few who have tried just using a roll of carpet and it doesnt work well at all… even the oem carpet can be tough to get to stay down proper but with it you are much farther a head then just trying to get a normal roll to stay down…

my own idea was possibly to hook it in and be able to pull it tight then screw it down or tie it down some how so it stays flat but then you have pins or screws all over the place holding it down…

which led me to a better idea which i cannot share at this time but will post my pictures once its complete

and have your shoes turn black?

things youll need:

carpet
exacto knife
spray on glue = speaker box carpet stuff will do
recycled padding = stuff you find in those cheap work jackets.
measuring tape

youll notice that when you take out your oem carpet it will have padding underneath it like in the foot areas, take the oem carpet lay it over your new carpet and trace an outline, but remember to give yourself an extra 2-3 inches for triming. once youve cut your piece out make the proper slits and holes for seat bracket and so on. onc eyou got that done it pretty much a test fit trim situation, once it sitting the way you want it take out out and cut sections of the recycled padding and glue it to you new carpet this padding is used to make a smooth looking surface on the carpet due to the creases in the floor pans.

hope that helps.

My OEM carpet is in good shape, I’d like to just dye that but I haven’t had
any luck, and either way i need to carpet the rear area anyways…

Do you guys know anywhere I could get the carpet professionally dyed? I
have tryed some dyes already and they rub off fairly easily :frowning:

Why not just get a huge roll of black carpet from homedeopt and
do it yourself. If im not mistaken Alex (perlS13) redid his own car.

Thats what I’d like to do, but it seams like it would come out shitty…

I guess i should just talk to Alex…

hey Andrew i got some carpet from homedepot and carpeted the rear of my car. I had it gutted out and didnt really like it all bare metal so i covered it with carpet and it came out pretty good. The stuff i got was some kind of water proof marine carpet, it was the lightest stuff i could find and it was pretty thin so you can mold it easily to the shape of the interior.

thats m trunk i did the hole car. It took me 40H’s and turned out nice.

I took a look when I was at home depot today to pick up some MDF but I
didn’t see any black carpet.

Canadian tire sells some which is $20 for a 3’x6 ft piece, but I would need
a bunch of rolls.

Must find BLACK

Go to a carpet store and buy it there. I got a 10-12 and had lots left over. I did the hole cabin with one pice. First i layed down one big pice of plastic so that if water get in it will not rot my flore. then i put down the fome padding to keep nois down (i mounted the plastic with ductap to make it water tight, and then ductaped the fome to the plastic) then i kinda layed out my new carpet with the old and cut a pice about 1foot bigger around. Then i trace out the middle concil holes and cut the out. then i put the carpet in and molded it by using all the bolt in the car to hold it in place. (dont cut any bolt holes untill its in the car, if you cut them when you are tracing the old carpet you are going to be off.)

I hope that helps you out. it was alot of work and now that i have taken it out i am not going to put it back in. I am going to get my original one died.

If you find a place that can do a permanent type of dye please let me know…

I went to a few places looking for S14 options, seems nobody makes a stock replacment and I mean like the actual cut pile carpet style. You do want it to be moulded because if its not you get issues with it bubbling up and the only way to correct that is to make multiple sections and have ugle carpet beeds all over.

I only used one pice and it looked perfict in the front seats with no bubbling. The back seats were alot harder and didnt look 100%.

Ya I will let you Know if I find a place to get it died.

what about just taking your existing interior out and using clothing dye throw it in the washer and it should be fine. May have to do it in three stages but the ftment should be good.

Just a possible suggestion
Bryce

how do you throw carpeting in a washer?
