Northtown collision sucks. First with my wife’s protege and the rear bumper wasn’t reattached properly and it was loose for the rest of the time we owned the car, the second time the front bumper wasn’t aligned properly (started with a big gap and ended up touching the quarter panel), and I took my truck there and they tried twice to put the door back together properly and it still isn’t right. At least it doesn’t rattle when you shut it… I’ll never go back there. They’re careless.
I had Dave Evans at Evans collision on Military do my wife’s Subaru when she got sideswiped and it’s good as new.
But regardless you’re worrying too much. The first check is just a starting point for big accidents. They cut a check for the damage that can be seen, and when the shop finds hidden damage then the shop goes back to the insurance for more money. They’re not going to pay you for damage that may or may not exist when they can just wait and see.
The bottom line is that the shop is accountable for fixing your car properly, so if they need more money to do the job right they go back to the insurance company for more money.
Id total it out if i had a choice.Thats a pretty hard hit and ITs very odd the airbags didnt deploy. The sensors are usually in the frame(i believe not sure on lexus) rails though so who knows.Id personally total the car out and fix it up so its drivable

The minute my insurance agent hung up on me during a conference call with the mechanic I’d be looking up phone number and email address for the companies corporate headquarters and making enough noise that they’d pay anything just to make me go away.
What insurance company is this?
lol wow i cant believe he hung up on you

You’re getting jerked around because you’re being a pussy. You should have been screaming at a manager within 2 minutes of having been hung up on. Now why the fuck are you meeting someone in person? So they can jerk you off face to face? You don’t need a handjob you need a check.
Newsflash kid: they’ve already got all of the information you do. They don’t care. You’re not going to convince them with reason. You have to bitch your way up the ladder so that you ruin the day of someone with the authority to make a decision and/or take legal action.
The only thing to bring to a meeting that will do any good is a lawyer.

Seriously though, I can tell that your mom’s dealing with this and you’re just trying to help. She needs to cancel that meeting. All she’s doing is giving them a chance to smooth her over without actually doing right by her.

I guess I’m just frustrated for you. I hate seeing people get abused. Good luck.
^fry, nailing it…
well done. You’re window of opportunity is closing, every second after the hang up…
You should have called and got a supervisor then and there.

video tape the whole meeting. say as soon as you walk up that this is going to be videotaped for legal purposes.
They might say no and leave right away. Basically the car had OEM parts on it when it was crashed, its the insurance companys job to return the car back to pre accident condition, dont take generic parts, and as soon as its done, have your mom switch companys.
Everyone who makes comments regarding “OEM parts” should make sure they check their insurance policies over very well. In most cases as long as the replacement part is CAPA certified, it can be used. Their standards are as stringent, if not more than oem. It is the insurance company’s responsibility to return your vehicle to pre accident condition, but if you read your policy it will state what parts they can use to do so.
Do people who suck know they suck?
There isn’t very many things to think about here.
- Do you want the car totaled or not?
If it does get totaled you probably won’t get enough money to buy another one. So now you’re spending more money to get a new car.
- Getting it fixed, choose your battles.
Id get it fixed, they aren’t using glue and gum to put this back together. Cars are not rocket ships, they don’t have to be accident free to drive fine. I can personally attest to being able to fix cars. I’ve fixed or had fixed many totaled cars and they drive just as good if not better then new cars. Get the car fixed at a good shop and go after DIMINISHED value. This way you get back the car you like, fixed just like it was before but now you have ~3000 bucks in your pocket.

Why so opposed to just fixing it?
Excellent and very Correct ^^
We dont use the same NADA value that is available to the general public. Why the values are different, I dont know, but they are and we pay for the service. We also dont use only NADA. The company I work for uses and average of Nada and Redbook. YMMV.
^^See above
Total BS statement. A good Professional shop will do the work right and you would never know it was in an accident.
Agreed. Start making some noise and work up the chain. Although I have ended a few calls in my lifetime over morons using language and being assholes in general. But I also warn them several times if they continue to speak with me like that I am ending the call.
^^THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Allstate are a bunch of cheap fuckers that will screw you any chance they get to keep from spending money. I have said it over and over again in every insurance thread that Allstate is the devil and this is known throughout the insurance industry.
Progressive can be just as bad.
Bottom line, LKQ parts are not a bad thing. Everyone gets in a tizzy when their car isnt getting brand new OEM parts. We couldnt use the parts if they didnt work, fit right or look right. After all is said and done, you cant tell the difference.
I was told a story once of a woman coming into an office to argue with an insurance adjuster that she only wanted quality GM OEM parts on her car. The adjuster would try to speak up and just be interrupted every single time until teh woman was screaming that she only wanted quality GM OEM parts on her car. Finally the adjuster was able to get in word and told the woman, “You drive a Toyota Corolla.”
What I am getting at, most people hear that they are getting LKQ parts and freak out thinking they are getting shitty parts. Bottom line, they are getting OEM parts, but from another vehicle that was totaled. No different then you busting a tail light and going to the junk yard to get another one. It keeps rates down for the insurance company, you an everyone else to use these parts.
Now if you were driving a 2011 lexus, they would put brand new parts on it. If you were driving a 1985 honda civic, you are going to get LKQ parts. Pre-accident condition is a huge reason they do this. Your 1985 Honda wasnt in new showroom condition and it wont be after the repairs. Although it will probably look better coming out of the shop then it it did before the accident.
