It’s a Pontiac built in California. If anything I’d say the Matrix isn’t a Japanese car.
That could be a great option for a long distance commuter for his wife, even though OP seems to have a real hard-on for big old trucks.

New Equinox gets great mileage and looks decent.
Fit and finish is better than previous models.
Does it still have a Chinese motor?
Ugh equinox’s are so cheap on the inside
The new Grand Cherokees are garbage. My friend just turned his back in because he had so many problems with it. Only owned it for 6 months but that was enough. He went back to a older wrangler and loves it.
except for the whole sharing a motor with the corolla thing
Well, I showed her a CRV…she was appalled. She wants/needs something more trucklike. Maybe an older Cherokee? Wrangler? And we’re still looking at Cummins powered Dodge trucks
Rav4…
Forester.
Gas mileage disputes can be so funny. CRV’s and forester’s get “good” 4 cylinder mpg. Like 25 highway. And tahoe’s get bad V8 mpg. Like 20 highway. The gearing differences are enourmous, and the fact that 4cyl. AWD cars/suvs work super hard to move 4 axles(I know, I have one) means they really don’t get good gas mileage at all for how rediculously slow they are. My 1.8awd 5sp only gets 28 on the highway and it is super slow. My 98 cobra could get that, just saying.
Don’t get a kia sportage, my sister bought a new one a few years ago and it hasn’t had any issues expect needing pads all the way around at 25k, but it is soooo slow, doesn’t get great mpg and is super cheap.
Forester’s and CRV’s are both nice. Or even an impreza but whatever ever you do don’t fool yourself into thinking you will be saving very much in gas money over something like a tahoe. The new Ford Fusions are actually really nice and with a V6 and AWD, they have some pep and still get mpg like a forester. I have to go with a new Ford Fusion.
Whats with all this import shit when he was asking for American?
What about an Escape? Had a couple friends with those that never had any problems.
not wanting something because its from a ‘foreign’ company is ignorant and basically irrelevant in today’s global market.
there is no valid reason to decline a product based solely on the import/domestic fascia that a specific company portrays
technically almost all the cars sold in the us from honda/toyota are made in the U.S.
made in mexico.
John Deere lawn mower
Don’t turn this into an import vs. american pissing match. We want a vehicle from an American company, end of story. I don’t care if you think something else is better.
That said, all I want is input as to what would be a reliable, durable, 4 wheel drive vehicle that doesn’t get rediculously awful mileage. Go…
The new Equinox looks nice, actually. It’s made in Canada. Be careful, you may find a few Canadians in it somewhere trying to seek our superior healthcare…
20 city/29 hwy (AWD/4 cylinder) mileage.
but I guess GM has figured out how to milk the EPA test:
i’d have to imagine if a crv is so ridiculously out of the question, a rav4 would be as well.
I had a few things to add, but based on the ‘AMERICAN OR BUST’ mentality, I have nothing to add. Go look at an Escape I guess.
Have fun making the same thread in 5 years
if its paid for, id stick with the liberty. youll always save money keeping the vehicle that you already own even if you have to do major repairs. save the money that would have normally went to the car payment and that will easily cover any repair needed after a few months.
if its financed, then thats a different story. id sell it, pay off the loan and pay cash for the next vehicle.
id definitely go for a cummins dodge for the next vehicle but only with a manual trans. auto trans are iffy in anything with that kind of torque except maybe the allison in the duramax. manual last darn near forever unless you are really stressing them… and really stressing them means towing huge campers to alaska and stuff like that.
plastic… everything is made out of plastic. even the fancy stuff is plastic. its just coated with some plastic that feels fancy but is still crap plastic.
