Anyone recommend me a decent vet to checkup on my blue and gold macaw?
I’ve had him for a couple years, took him to Wheatfield Animal Hospital the first year and they were not that great plus they tried to feed him some old food.
I also took him to a place(don’t remember the name) in Cheektowaga that had a bird vet, she handled him better but didn’t help with his anxiety and stress.
I was hoping maybe you guys knew a good vet(s) that actually work with large birds.
Drew, I called them October 2009, I think I left a message and they called me back the next day and couldn’t take him at the time if I recall. So I ended up going to the place in Cheektowaga.
I’ll take your word and I see the birds on their site lol.
Thank You.

I found that they work on your wallet VERY VERY well. I take George to Boston Valley Animal Hospital and they are AMAZING there and I can not believe how reasonable their prices are. Everytime I took my dog to Orchard Park it was a $400 bill no matter what they did to him.
That’s the only complaint that I hear of too, but then again it’s the health of a pet that we’re talking about here. If people care enough then it should be worth the costs to them. They have probably one of the nicest facilities in WNY and are also one of the few 24 hour facilities in the area. And like I mentioned, they can cover quite a few different pets/animals.
Sounds like Georgetown in Williamsville. I should have known I was going to be overpaying when they had a website where I could access all my dog’s medical records and their waiting room was nicer than my doctor’s.
Not sure if Amclare takes birds but it’s worth the call because Dr Olson is great and their prices are much more reasonable. I’ve been taking my dog there for several years now and he really takes his time, gives you options and you can tell he just cares about the animals he treats. They’re on Hopkins just north of Klein.
I didn’t mention anything about the quality of service and I’m not going to bash other animal care places. All I’m saying is they take excellent care of their animals at OPVMC and I’m not so sure the same can be said for just any other animal care facility that costs less (case in point-Wheatfield Animal Hospital). The OP came in here asking for recommendations of good vets and I gave him one.
