If it is only 1 psi off as people have said earlier then it will do the job he wants it to, $100 vs $30 , when the guy only has a few hundred to spend total on other parts for his car as well
Well if that’s the argument then why spend any money at all? It’s ECU controlled  , why waste money on something that will never change (you hope, God forbid something happens to the ECU though)? Spend the $100 bucks somewhere else and stop being a ricer. If it’s ECU controlled, then you don’t need a boost gauge.
your right…if you dont care if its not accurate that why even bother with the guage in the first place?
You can read vaccum, and you can also see long term changes. 1psi accuracy isn’t going to make a difference…but if his car runs like shit one day and its hitting 8psi instead of 15 or whatever, it’s an easy way to diagnose the problem.
It’s not like he’s tuning the car himself. Oh, and where’s this proof the VDO gauge is so off?
Why read vacuum? You don’t need to. It’s ECU controlled. :gotme: What’s the point of reading vacuum innaccurately anyway? Boost will be innaccurate, vacuum will be inaccurate, your guestimations on what is really going on will be…you guessed it… innaccurate.
How are you going to see long term changes, when you can’t get short term actual readings properly? How are you going to diagnose a problem when the tool that is supposed to aid you in the diagnosis (gauge) is not acurate? How are you going to prevent your engine from going to shit BEFORE it gets to the point when you are losing large amounts of PSI, when your gauge can’t differentiate between zero and one with any sort of consistency?
Why would you install a MBC if the ECU regulates boost? Oh wait, are you sure the ECU regulates boost?
Awwww fuck it, just TURN UP DA BOOOSSSTT YOooo!!!one1 :hitit:
CHiP daT ShiznIt yo :tspry: Check it out, I’m running mad boost! Oh the gauge, ignore it. It says -4, but it’s really 13. I think… Mad powa yo. :cjerk:
I’m pretty sure Minglor mentioned to me that he was getting a MBC, if that matters at all in all of this. I won’t claim to know what I’m talking about here, cause quite simply, I don’t.
Yep.
I also have NEVER heard of VDOs being inaccurate.
It is ECU controlled
Has stock gauge that is useless
It will be chipped (i have them already)
And i would like a decent idea as to where everything lies
If i have an issue with hoses within the system it could cause low boost or it to spike or lack vacuum and a any gauge will help me with this…
and did i mention
Plenty of car use VDOs and have no issues as to false readings
Please RX3
quit being a dick
because Yes darkstar is sure that the ECU will be regulating my boost
thanks for the help everyone…
if your just upgrading the boost gauge because your car doesnt even have a gauge, of because yours is a bitch to read, then a cheap gauge will do
if your building a car and will NEEEED to know exact boost, and see any possible spike or creep ect, a higher quality gauge is needed
theres plenty of boosted cars out there that have no gauge (alot of vw’s and audis) a stupid gauge (supercharged buicks with the bar graphs) and some cars just have the boost gauge shoved off to the side with the fuel gauge
now obviosly “something” is better the nothing / almost nothing … hence the reason why boosted3g’s boost gauge is a donated (and beat) vdo … money was tight and the ebay gauge tom had was reading 2 psi @ 30 psi when tested with my compressor … and since the vdo showed 30 psi @ 30 psi, it was deemed good enough for the project, despite looking like ass
that said … if the 3g even gets built to a higher level, the gauges will definantly be upgraded … but its kind of hard to do much damage w/ a 14b on a 2.4l … were at 9 psi right now, and that motor will take 17 psi from a big 16g so we have plenty of leway …
putting a $100+ gauge in a mild project car is as debatable as putting v speed rated tires on moms grocery getter
safer for all possible situations ? yes
worth spending all the extra $ on ? eh …
I was always under the impression that autometer gauges were good quality, i’ve got a tranny temp and boost/vacc i’ve never compared the gauge to anything to check if its accurate i’ll do that when the car comes out for spring. are they really that bad?
Still waiting on some sort of evidence that VDO gauges are inaccurate…
This is pretty much it
haha
side note
ehh, my autometer is almost dead on, verified when I had the car dyno’d at innovative and from my scan gauge. Its less than a half pound off. But then again my set up can not over boost so for me it works fine. I will say that autometer is just a average gauge. If I had a very serious build I would be running somthing different.
i know, i love that example
According to the advice given
I got a VDO
thanks
I was going to try and pick up a defi d boost, but right now they are redesigning it and you cant find em.
When I had my safc in my car, it would read about 1psi higher than my autometer.
