I am looking to pick up a second house, something like a 3/4 bedroom 2 bath cottage for my family and myself to use for the summers. We are hunting and watching the Grandview Beach community in Angola as a beach house is what I consider ideal, but what else is in this area?
My brother has a super nice camp on a private lake north of Syracuse where there are about 30 cottages and a great community. We would love something like this just as much as a beach home but I am not aware of any places like this in our area.
Suggestions? Places you know are for sale? We don’t want to spend over 100K but are open to ideas close to that. We would also be interested in land under 50K that we could build on, but it would have to be in a great location.
I am not in love with the sunset bay area at all. Last time I was there it was very trashy and we were staying in a 300K house right on the water. I would not want to spend that much money to be around the people that were there. I would say that it was like being on an episode of Jersey Shore.
To clarify, the 100K budget is assuming that we are getting a house that needs work as we want to do work to be able to customize and make it our own. I will own this place forever so I may as well grab something broken and cheap then sink money into at at will to make it what I want.
I am not sure of outside NY we do want to keep it within 45 minute drive as I intend to live there for most of the summer.
Looks like there are a few places on Chatacqua lake for under $100k, but on the canal or with deeded lake access or some shit. If you can add one more zero to your budget you open up a lot of options there. (I had no idea real estate there was so high.)
Must be the chatacqua institution attracts all the rich academic types.
I spent a couple of nights camping on the beach at a friend’s family cottage in Westfield NY a few years ago. It seemed like a nice little town. Not sure how the prices are though.
Our family has a summer home on Conesus Lake, it’s right outside of Geneseo. Lake is 9 miles long by about a mile wide, perfect for boating/jetskis/pontoon boats. Lots of places for sale around the lake, not sure if any can be had at 100k…
Unfortunately I live in South Buffalo and it is an hour and a half from there. I think that just one other person agreeing with sunset being trashy puts it out of the question lol. I will take a look at Conesus lake but I doubt that the wife will let it fly.
I always found the Sunset crowd to be less obnoxious than the Mickey Rats/Angola crowd. Seems like there’s two main streets of rentals where the trash goes and the rest of the area is owners and a lot nicer. There are a lot of nice lake setups around the area but most of them are boring, depends on what you’re looking for.
What do you know about Lime Lake? When me and my dad looked there years ago it was very crowded and seemed like it was a small city packed into a lake, no land and limits on the lake. Has anything changed or am I remembering it wrong?
I prefer Rats over sunset any day. I am not sure if you have been to sunset lately but it has become a shit show down there. Actually I bet that you wouldn’t mind what it is, since the women are pretty much naked, but I am looking for a place where I can bring my family too. Angola has that two sides of the tracks like sunset too… that is what is making it hard to find a place there. If I could easily scoop up a house in the grandview bay community, this thread would be “Come party at my new beach house”. Sadly I am not having the luck that two of my friends recently had getting houses in there.
I will have to see what kind of crowd the new beach club brings this year…they leveled the old place after the labor day closing party. Supposed to be more like Cabana Sam’s setup. Anyway, my naked women and come party at my new beach house things went off, false alarm
