f we let them, yes. The City of Buffalo wants to install red light cameras. Check out this University of South Florida study from March which found these cameras do more harm than good.
This seems to be nothing more than a money making scheme by the Mayor of Buffalo and Common Council.
Mad? Want to do something about it?
First, Buffalo Common Council wants to hear from you this Tuesday, March 24, at 2pm in City Hall.
Here’s another link I found on FARK about those stupid lights.
Its a money grab, I wish I could go to the meeting today, but of course, like any other working person here, I’m stuck at work.
Typical Buffalo, scheduling the meeting at 2pm on a Tuesday to make sure the few people left in the city who actually have jobs can’t attend.
If you’re going to go, find out what they plan to do about the length of the yellow, and what guarantees the city will make that they won’t start reducing the time of the yellow to increase revenue the way other red light camera cities have.
What happens if someone innocently picks up a piece of debris at either A) covers part of their plate or B) Makes one letter such as an I look like a L ?
My aunt and uncle live in DC, at the end of the month he received 6 tickets for red lights! If he knew he had gone through one he might not have gotten the others but instead he got them all at once at the end of the month!
That’s interesting JayS, but I can’t find a lot of artircles on the cities that have shortened yellow light time. Isn’t there a mandatory minimum in NYS for safety?
the ones they have here take a pic of your license plate AND you driving. then they send you the picture in the mail. the intersections that have them are also clearly marked. they really are not that bad.
again, here, i know it is not set in stone, iv actually saw the flash like 3 times going thru these intersections and never have gotten a ticket. and if you know the intersection has the cameras just keep that in mind and proceed with caution. this is not the big deal some of you are making it out to be.
Does anyone know who will issue the tickets? Yesterday on Shredd & Regan they said it would be issued by the camera company and not BPD/NYS. If that’s the case what could BPD or NYS do to you if you just refused to pay the ticket? The way they made it sound, it wasn’t an actual NYS ticket, so how can some private company prosecute you for a traffic violation not issued by a law enforcement agency?
