for example: the fact that they are reducing the grace period just to grab more money. The fact that this is initiated and pushed as a money grab, not a safety effort. the fact that weather IS IN FACT an issue in buffalo in the winter, and ice CAN and DOES effect driving. Human cops can make the call on whether or not someone intentionally went through a light, or slid through a light, and I think most people in this city have an understanding that it CAN AND DOES HAPPEN.

Fuck, I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve slid through a light after hitting some ice.

It also doesnt help in this city with how the city plows (or rather, doesnt) some streets.

The fact that there is no judgment call available and this is pushed almost as a “tax” on drivers in the city makes me not happy about this. But tell you what, everyone that doesnt see this as a slippery slope and doesnt come into the city anyway, do us a favor and stay out. But stay out of issues in the city as well.

bottom line is that a red light is a traffic control device. Its designed to bring order and safety to our intersections, anything more than that and its an unneeded add on.

I can see giving tickets and such for blatant running a solid red light, one that’s been solid for some time, and is well passed the “all lights at intersection red” phase.

The proper way to go through a yellow is off the gas, foot ready on brake, anything to disturb that practice is kinda dumb too.

I don’t think for the world to function we need that “line in the sand” mentality for red lights.

This debate is even worse than the one about weather or not to run a red to see a dieing relative.

The current law, wherever you live, is you have to stop for red lights and be in complete control of your vehicle at all times. That is the law. These cameras don’t change that fact. You can’t disagree/argue with a fact.

You can disagree on opinions… but I haven’t really argued opinions in this thread.

I’ve already stated that I have slid through a red light because of ice and unsafe speeds. I have not done it since then (yr 2000?).

I ran several red lights when I was traveling to see a dying relative. I entered and or stopped with caution and then proceeded with caution. Ticket me… WTF do I care? Better than a cop keeping you on the side of the road for a half hour. Got from Akron to Sloppy Joe’s Hospital in less than 20 minutes. Would have gotten over 5 tickets… would have been worth every penny. I think I was able to get to the hospital on my own faster than I would have with a police escort.

BUT - You have to pay to play.

ITS NOT A MOVING VIOLATION. They can’t prove it was you driving the car, so they can’t give you points. It’s as simple as that. Insurance doesn’t give a shit if someone else got 200 red light tickets in your car, as long as they didnt hit anything

Unless this is buffalo specific mine were just a fine. It will go to the address of the license plate(obviously) and will have whoever that car is registered to a fine for a few $
