Remove Vista Components

I am not going to lie, Vista grew on me. Having 4GB of DDR3 RAM and a 512MB DDR3 RAM video card makes a huge difference but the 64 bit version does run pretty good.

I did find this cool tool that will make you a custom install disk that removes a lot of the useless shit that bloats up the installation. The tool is cool but you need to download a 900MB file from Microsoft (the tool needs a 200kb resource from this) but I stripped out a lot of stuff if anyone else wants to give it a try.

www.vlite.net

Aparently you can get the files from here and copy them to the vlite folder so you dont need to install the 1300MB package. http://rapidshare.com/files/155242046/Vlite_without_WAIK.zip.html

Update: that works. extract the dll file to the folder and the files inside the rar for your windows version (x86 or 64) and right click on the INF file and click Install. This gets the program working without the WAIK install

They make a XP version too: www.nliteos.com

idk if vista is already unassisted… but you can load all your drivers into an image so it just put in the disk and walk away (essentially)

nlite was great fir this in vista

The installation from my OEM cd was unassisted pretty much. My drivers were hard to come by for the 64 bit edition so since gateway didnt come with a recovcery cd so I am in the process of making a new one with all my drivers and taking out all the shit that vista loads in their software. Hopefully I can get a pretty tweaked install.
