I rent a house with my sister and a few of her friends downtown and there is always a very shady looking black guy that goes through the garages on the side of the houses looking for cans. This has on more than one occasion freaked out the girls I live with when they leave and its dark out and someone is going through the garbage inside the fence on the side of our house.
Also, I feel this is a personal security risk becuase I do not want him exposed to documents, pay stubs, etc I might have ripped up and thrown out.
What are my rights as a renter? Can I put up a no trespassing sign or a private property sign or does this need to go through the owner of the property? Also, what are the rights in respect to someone coming into the yard and a gate to stand going through garbage on the side of the house.
Also open to any suggestions and pranks I might be able to do to the guy. Dropping shit off the roof on him was fun over the summer but now its too cold.
dude you’re down by canisius right? stay away from that dude. Canisius public safety gave us the heads up on him after we used to give him the cans from our parties…he did a lengthy stint for murder.
Call the cops. It’s trespassing, regardless of your status as a renter. If I see some dude digging through my neighbors trash in their garage, or beside their garage, you can bet I’m calling the cops even though I have no rights to the property either. Your garbage only becomes public domain once it’s at the curb.
Buy a $30 cross cut shredder. If you’re tossing out pay stubs, or anything with an account number for that matter, you’re being stupid.
back when i was in the heights, there was a crazy white guy that would go through our trash all the time looking for cans. freaked girls out everytime. dude was a fuckin creeper.
the best thing you can do it put the garbage can in a place he can’t access it or lock it. If he can’t check it then he won’t waste his time going onto the property at all… these guys don’t waste time unless there is atleast some odds of a payoff.
cops won’t care, can’t setup a stakeout for this guy… waste of time with that idea.
I would say put all of your cans in a garbage bag once and then urinate in it 5 or 6 times. If he figures it out, he stops. If he doesn’t, you get the satisfaction of snky ownage.
