I am looking to extend the wireless signal at my parents marina out to their boat so they can have their own network and tap into the marina’s WiFi. I wanted to set up a media server on their boat and have a wireless printer on their own network(not shared). Is this something very difficult to do? I have two Netgear routers 802.11N that have dd-wrt on them and just started to mess around with it?
I just installed this repeater in January for a buddy of mine due to how big his house is - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833281004
Easy setup and works very well. The only downside is it creates a second network connection.
Ya you will need a separate SSID. NOt 100% familiar with DD-WRT but you will need a router in the house associated with the Marina’s Wifi. On that, you will need to create a second Wifi network such as “MyP2P”. From there the AP by the boat will need to connect to that one. You will also need to do any settings on the main netgear so the networks can talk to each other because I know on Cisco, they can’t by default.
You can also buy a signal extender from Bestbuy and rebroadcast the network from the marina and see if that is enough.
