replacing piston rings cost?

im thinking for buying a car that has a gtir engine in it but the piston rings need to be replaced in the 4th cylinder do anybody know how much it would cost with labour and everything? and is there anybody on this forum that could do it?

The Proper way to do so would be to dismantle the motor and check ALL tolerances (ie main bearing clearence, inspect surface of main bearings and crankshaft etc, etc) At this point the bores would be checked for squareness and, if not distorted they would then be honed. Now onto the rings, some rings are avalible pre gapped, but most will have to be file fit. So on top of the cost of the rings, you would now be into buying such items as a gasket set and possibly new hardware (not sure on these motors but on my 4G63T it was a requirement, as they were torque to yeild fasteners). Or,…you go and find some interwebz prodigy on here and ignore everything I just said and drop the crank, pull the pistons out through the bottom and jam new rings in that way, just dont be suprised if it doesnt last. As far as cost goes, I dont imagine a venture like that would be cheap… If you dont feel comfortable tacleing something like this I would reccomend contacting a shop to do it for you. Pur in Toronto would be my shop of choice, they really seem to know what they are doing there. Give them a call and see what they’d charge. Good luck!

Is it a 240SX?
