What ‘position’ are we in now? The avg. employed person in NYS got a 3% raise from last year. Gas prices are down. Unemployment isn’t far off of the average of where it’s always been in our state. Would you rather the media say we’re doing well and gas prices be at $4.50 a gallon? Perception is a real mother fucker. I tell you what, if people think they were better off 3% poorer and with $2/gal higher gas prices with media swooning them then power to them. The truth of it is a lot of companies have had bad business practices for years and now they’re panicing and paying for it. Fuck them, let them die on the vine. GM hasn’t made a product anyone has wanted in decades. Yet they think they deserve billions upon billions of dollars? It’s the companies responsibility to provide a desirable product. People will spend money if there are things they WANT on top of what they NEED in day to day life. It’s the highers ups responsibility to regulate these companies, which I feel is what is ‘happening’ now and people are getting all nervous. When in reality such a small % of people are effected by the paper chasing BS that is the stock market. A lot of people form opinions based on media reports which is unfortunate. These are the people who are probably currently fleeing in despair due to the Swine Flu Pandemic…give me a god damn break.
The only reason we havent felt the affect of the crisis yet is because of the stimulus package. And the rise in unemployment thus far is a serious issue. It only has to go up 1% to have a significant impact and I think we’re up 2-4% over average right now in NYS.
This isnt just going to blow over. America has some very serious long term financial problems that are going to bury us.
