The wife and I had a sitter Friday night so we went out for a date. I decided to walk in and check this place out since it’s close for us. The menu is what I’d have to call modern Italian with a high end/interpretive twist. Any time a chef takes a shot like that it can go one of two ways. In this case they nailed it.
It was 11pm and we were out for drinks, but the menu was so interesting we had to try a few appetizers.
Gnocchi with duck pieces and japanese mushrooms. No that’s not what they called it, but I don’t remember the proper name. It was up there with the best gnocchi I’ve ever had and I’ve had it from the best places in NYC. Cooked just right and then very quickly seared so it had a touch of golden brown on the outside. The duck was cooked nicely and garnished with toothpick sized slices of green apple and cranberries.
Asian style crabcakes - browned on the outside. buttery smooth in the middle. excellent.
The chef also came out and gave us a complimentary dish. Pita bread wedges with lamb, greens, tomatoes, tzatziki sauce. It was good as a whole but I felt the lamb was too tasty to be masked by the tzatziki sauce.
Then they had a special take on a Caprese Salad. Instead of the mozzarella being sliced it was in a ball and the outside was of standard consistency, but when split the inside was VERY soft almost like a pudding. I’ve had Caprese salads a hundred times and this was very solid.
Appetizers $6-12
Main courses $10-40
It was some of the best service I’ve had, but granted it was towards the end of their night so they weren’t swamped. For the money and that type of food I haven’t found anything that tops it in Buffalo. We’ll be back.
i agree me and my wife went there not o long ago it’s just down the the street from me too… there’s another restaurant to check out that like a block down towards the boulevard i forget the name of the place. i’ll let you know, but i was very impressed with the place as well. awesome atmosphere.
did you buy a round of drinks for the bar as well?
not sure if im feeling the interior decorations… is it a good date restaurant? other than that the menu looks very reasonable, ive never been there i shall try it
im feeling pic #2, the wine rack and bar look goodness, but the dining room i dono, the tile floor gives it this cold look, and i dont like glasstop tables, also cold, kinda like chinese restaurant-ish… it just looks like something is missing in the pic(#1)… i think the flash from the camera kills the warmth of the place, im hoping its a little more dim in there, and maybe theres some ambiet light from the torches on the wall, you know what i mean i want it cozy/romantic if youre gonna bring a date there… but like i said im going to try it for myself before i make a real judgement
oh i see so theres a main dining area behind where the guy is taking the picture (pic1)? do they take reservations or was that a thing of the 90s, im going to try to go there in the next 2 weeks or so… thanks!
