Riding Mowers - Let's Chat

For the past two years I’ve had a guy cut my lawn. However, last year he seriously pissed me off, more than once. So, needless to say…dipshits gotta go.

I figure, I can either hire someone else to do it, but I’m toying with the idea of doing it myself. I’m certainly not going to push mow it, as it’s almost too big of a yard to push mow and it would take over an hour. No thanks.

So, if I do it myself…I’m getting a rider. Any recommendations? I’m looking around 40" deck, maybe bigger, maybe smaller.

Help.

zero turn is definitely nice to have… everything else depends on your budget

I really don’t think I could warrant a zero-turn. Seems a bit excessive for my property. Hell, a riding mower might in itself, be a little excessive.

Ask Jeller about zero turn he bought home use. IIRC the sales guy at the place he bought his from asked what lawn company he owned. LOL

X…

LOL

You do not need a riding lawnmower, you yabbo.

Bought a new Cub Cadet 40" for mowing my tree farm last summer. No complaints thus far. Probably only about 20 hrs. on it though.

What do you care? You won’t even use it. The lawn or the mower.

Depends on your yard size.

Most people a regular JD, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet would be fine. No real difference between them for the basic home use.

Now if you have some land… look at a garden tractor instead of a lawn tractor… my Dad’s got a Kabota that rocks.

When looking around for a mower, look at the differences you get when looking at a “garden tractor” vs. “lawn mower”. Budget is always going to be key here too.

I’m contemplating a lawn mower for my house and probably a tractor or ATV for summer property.

JD is going to have a larger price tag due to the name, also you are more than likely stuck getting parts directly from them.
Find something

  1. A decently build deck. Not pressed sheet metal shit
  2. hydrostatic
  3. Cup holder for beer.
  4. Kholer or briggs motor. Parts are everywhere for them.

Husqvarna.

/thread.

Also forgot to mention, my “mower” will only work for a couple more seasons before I need to upgrade to a tow behind rig for the ATV.

Lowe’s just released this…

It’s sweet, I got to demo to it while I was still working but they have been starting on fire.

Recall was lifted last week

agree with all, but would favor a kawasaki motor, then briggs, read alot of issues with the kohler courage line (most likely found on entry level mowers). Actually I would take a honda over all of them but they are really hard to find and are a premium for sure. Tried to get mine with the honda, but very happy with my Kawasaki. Every mower dealer I went to, no matter what brand loved the kawasaki and said it was money well spent.

color me confident…

I used a crappy MTD Yard Machines riding mower for over a year. I think it was a 42" deck or so, did a great job. got it for like $250 or so on CL.

point being…why sweat your dick off pushing a mower, when you can ride around and drink beer for an hour?
