With the hunting laws changing, picking up a Remington today. They are on sale pretty cheap at Gander for less than $300 and will be good to help with a couple of shots we have from the stand in the hills. Pretty excited. Been a while since I shot a bolt action rifle.
Any rifle guys that hunt have suggestions for a entry level rifle? Some things to look for? I have been looking at the super cheap Remington 770 but they compare it to the Savage Axis.
Basically, this is for deer and elk hunting. Need something for the 100yd-300yd shots we have on our property and curious what people are using.

There’s a wmlx light too… It’s being repaired…
I think I’m done with my ar’s now… Realistically I have everything I originally sought out… Now it’s just tweaking them.
Any out of state non ny’ers want an ar pistol upper… Message me. (not a firearm)
Oh yea… Magpul mbus flip up sights and 40 Rd (unpinned , unblocked, capable of holding a full 40 bullets) pmag

Must be polish…
?
Brought the ar15s to the range today, changed a few things around , and took some pictures
First is a primary weapon systems, pws gas piston mk116 (all stock except for the aac 51t brake out 2 muzzle device, optic, and chip McCormick 3.5 lb trigger)

This is the 10.3 inch ar pistol I built, now it’s running the old pws fsc brake. It makes fireworks

This is the gun from yesterday’s post, unsuppressed
And the same gun “silenced”

These are freaking wild shots (pun fully intended). The AR pistol brake looks gnarly
Decided to clean my guns today on my day off.
On a related note I got a $50 Cabelas gift card from my bank rewards so I plan on putting that toward something fun soon.
Welp, bought a new gun.
Winchester SXP Defender. Wanted something to keep in the closet, and having looked at the options (870, 500, etc) I think I made a good purchase. Not a huge after market but I’m not looking for a tacti-cool gun, just something I could rack and fire.
I’ll post pictures later.
Where’d you buy it and how much?
I had a $50 gift card to Cabelas, so I ended up buying it there. Not my first choice to go, but $50 is $50. It was listed for 349.99 so I think out the door I was at $330ish. It cycles ridiculously fast, no need for a full pull back. Made in Turkey and contracted by Winchester, the quality is there though. Doesn’t feel cheap like the 500’s and isn’t pricey like the 870’s / comes in 18" as opposed to the 20" express. About a pound lighter too, due to the aluminum receiver.
Sounds good. I was just curious of you were gonna wait put for Walmart blackfriday firearm sale…
Cabelas always gave me cheap ammo… Nothing wrong there. Lol
Nothing good for me on Black Friday, I looked around a bit. If I were to buy a 700 or something along those lines I’d be in line though.
Taking my buddy shooting tomorrow, his first time, so I’ll get some pictures tomorrow.
BOOM:
Shooting rifled slugs at 40 yds with no optics.
Just picked up the Savage Axis Trophy Hunter .30-06. Hoping to hit up the range tomorrow to rip off a few shots.
Thats two separate and completely different guns.
The trophy trophy hunter is a mod 11 which is based on the 10 and is a flagship action.
The axis is the bargain basement gun priced to compete with the rem 770 783 and other low end products. The axis (and competing products) should be avoided as they leave a lot to be desired. Every person I’ve know to buy an axis has sold it (for a loss) and moved on to a flagship action like the 10/110, 11/111 or for rem the 700.
With flagship action guns available for as low as $375 (after rebates) I have no idea why anyone would buy an axis or 783?
Glad you cleared that up. I want a bolt 308 to go boar hunting down here… Needs to be threaded and priced right… Or I’ll wait.
Input?
Congrats boxxaaa
