Right America: Feeling Wronged - Some Voices from the Campaign Trail

On the day Barack Obama was elected the 44th President, more than 58 million voters cast their ballots for John McCain. In the months leading up to this historic election, filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi (HBO’s Emmy®-winning “Journeys with George”) took a road trip to meet some of the conservative Americans who waited in line for hours to support the GOP ticket, and saw their hopes and dreams evaporate in the wake of that Democratic victory. These voters share their feelings about the changing America in which they live. Premieres Monday, February 16 at 8pm (ET/PT) on HBO2. Read more.

Has anyone seen this?

I would just sit there the whole time making the Nelson “HA HA” voice at the rednecks.

yeah.It was pretty much all the ignorant McCain supporters saying stupid stuff.I’m not saying is was ignorant to support him, just the reasons these people used.
Being black was a BIG issue.People thought the country was going to end because we were giving it to an Islamic terrorist.People said if McCain lost they would move out of the country. Most of the people didnt have simple facts like he is not an arab,Islamic faith, ect ect.

It made me LOL at all the stupid people in this country

So wait, Obama wins by 9.5 million votes and they bitch

Bush lost by 500,000 and had the election handed to him by a Conservative-leaning Supreme Court and I don’t recall ever getting asked about it

I saw it… it was pretty entertaining… the racist and sexist nascar fans were the highlight for me…

that and the evangelical nut jobs.

So it’s like Religulous but with Politics?

you pretty much just described the republican party

As much as I self identify as a democrat, I felt(or at least hoped) this was not a accurate portrayal of the right.

And as I watched It made me wonder how the south was ever 99% democrat. I still scratch my head and wonder how they flopped so quickly from D to R down there…

Because the Republicans freed the slaves

Lyndon Johnson did it when he (a Democrat) pushed Equal Rights.

:word: The South has always voted nearly exclusively for the party promoting racial inequality.

And I’m sure in the interest of entertainment value, there are a lot more JEGs than JayS’s in this.

I have a degree in social sciences/public policy. I understand the high school history lesson part…it’s not quite as cut and dry as you just made it though.

thanks though

Lol, I LOL’d so hard at my brothers girlfriend.
She’s such a bitch.
She was whining about the election, so my mom got the balls to ask her who she voted for.
My brothers GF Was like, oh I don’t vote it’s pointless.

But yet you spend 3 fucking hours bitching about it?
She believes that now since a black man is in power, all of the black people in the nation are going to rise up (since they are now empowered by an all mighty black terrorist leader) against white people and create a revolution against us.

Anywhooooo. she works at the MAC Counter in Macy’s in eastern or galleria… i forget.
Feel free to throw eggs.
Or go strike up a conversation with her.

thanks… now explain why the republican party who freed the slaves decided in 30 years to switch sides. It’s kind of a chicken or egg thing. It’s a very interesting topic that I’ve read many books on. I understand it all, but it’s just very interesting to think about.

Again, thanks for the intro to government answers boys…

I have a degree in History/Political Science

No, it’s not, but the characterization is not unreasonable

The South was full of Dixiecrats, and they became Republicans when the Democratic party began pushing racial equality.

You give a retarded answer to a retarded-looking question

Just because you’re not a retard doesn’t mean your question didn’t look like you were asking what color the sky was, in political/historical terms.

Simple. They were on the run ever since the New Deal and had nothing going for them and needed a drastic step to develop a new voter base, so when Johnson embraced civil rights, Nixon’s people came up with the Southern strategy. It worked. They guessed that for every black person that registered and voted, it would piss off 2 white people that would vote for the opposite. They won a lot of Presidencies based on racist southerners.

I wasn’t trying to be an asshole. I was just stating that I understand the basic ideas of the flop, it’s just fascinating how the party ideals changed so quickly

Thanks… now I get it.

I hate all the US parties.
