WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 - In a sign of increasing unease among Congressional Republicans over the war in Iraq, the Senate is to consider on Tuesday a Republican proposal that calls for Iraqi forces to take the lead next year in securing the nation and for the Bush administration to lay out its strategy for ending the war.

The Senate is also scheduled to vote Tuesday on a compromise, announced Monday night, that would allow terror detainees some access to federal courts. The Senate had voted last week to prohibit those being held from challenging their detentions in federal court, despite a Supreme Court ruling to the contrary.
Senator Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican who is the author of the initial plan, said Monday that he had negotiated a compromise that would allow detainees at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, to challenge their designation as enemy combatants in federal courts and also allow automatic appeals of any convictions handed down by the military where detainees receive prison terms of 10 years or more or a death sentence.
The proposal on the Iraq war, from Senator Bill Frist, the majority leader, and Senator John W. Warner, Republican of Virginia, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, would require the administration to provide extensive new quarterly reports to Congress on subjects like progress in bringing in other countries to help stabilize Iraq. The other appeals related to Iraq are nonbinding and express the position of the Senate.

Racist Republicans won’t vote for Rice. Democrats won’t vote for Rice. Conservatives who want to distance themselves from Bush won’t vote for Rice.
The only black person alive today who would have a PRAYER of winning in 08 is Colin Powell.
The Republicans will run someone in the mold of a George Allen in 2008- a conservative southerner devoid of charisma. The Republicans will lose the election due to a shit candidate, not because of a great Democratic one. I sincerely hope Hillary doesn’t win the Democratic primary. The Dems will be handed this election on a platter, and I’d rather it go to someone more firmly rooted in liberal ideals than she is. She’s just a fucking politician, and closer to the center on family issues than her husband.
i REALLY hope McCain runs. with all the republicans running from bush like the plague, they would need a new leader to rally behind. Democrats love him, Republicans respect him. He could unite the parties and we could actually get some shit done in this country. assuming Bush doesnt start WWIII.

the thing is that my politics prof. feels very sure that Rice will win over clinton and she is a super liberal. Rice will get the black vote which is usually democrat, she will also get the bible belt. I would love it if she ran and won. she would do well

I think that she would. Blacks would love to vote for any black person no matter who it is. The thing is I just dont think it would happen because she wouldn’t get enough votes or she would get killed. She has got 2 things against her, she is black and she is a women (im not being predjudice im being realistic). Colin would be reasonable but I think he knows that if here were to run he would be risking his life and he would rather have be in the cabinent and still make important decisions and get paid millions.
