Well this is my very first thread on here , so please excuse the ramblings of a worn out old hippy and I hope I can work out how to post some pictures- thanks Tom
Anyway down to business - I brought with me from England my old yellow 1969 Barracuda, the car was built in Detroit and shipped to Canada for conversion to Right hand drive, then shipped on to a dealer in London for sale. Chrysler had done this for a few years previous to this, but only in tiny quantities, mine is one of 200 made.
I drove the car around here in sunny Salt Point NY and had some fun, in it’s last form it was powered by a 405ci nitrous smallblock. Due to some unfortunate bad luck it’s sat around for a couple of years, but now’s the time to put it all back together and have some fun.
We’re currently screwing together a latest series NEXTEL Cup 358ci Dodge motor for it, the new JE 8.5:1 turbo pistons just showed up, they were the last part of the puzzle in the engine dept.
Next week I have a GM4L80E tranny case showing up at my door so we can go ahead and try and get an adapater made - these new R5 NASCAR blocks have a unique bellhousing and nothing will fit , apart from the wimpy magnesum piece they use for going around in circles!
I have a CK built tranny coming for the beast which is good for around 1800 pounds of torque and comes with 4 speeds AND an overdrive- yep we’re going to drive it on the street!
I had to ditch the old Mopar front suspension finally and I have an RMS ‘Alterkation’ coil over set-up in there now, we’re just waiting on Flaming River to come up with the right hand drive rack.
I have some Mickey Thompson street radials for the back and to keep things simple I have some of the split monoleaf Caltracs on the rear, the guys in the 10.5 tire class have been in the 7’s using this combination, so it should work.
Er not much else to tell you, turbo choice is still under debate, but the FAST computer will run the tranny also- so get in turn the key and BOOM!
Hopefully Tom will post a couple of pictures for me, I guess I should start a thread on the Skyline build up that Don and the Hybrid Connection guys are doing for me also?

this is a link to the Calvert racing website, they have a few pictures of the car- all very out of date now, and if you click the update page you’ll see it at the track, man what a cold frosty morning that was! All the internal components have changed a lot but the old yellow heap looks much the same on the outside!
Thats sweet as hell, I miss my RHD del sol.
Here ya go
Can we get some pics of the dash? I am curious how they converted the dash to RHD.
His collection is crazy. Besides his European '69 Barracuda (what did this start life as? Was this a big block car, Formula S?) he also has a black R32 Skyline that will make the import guys (and me!) go nutz, plus another project which I’ll let him disclose. :snky:
Can’t wait to show my buddy pics of the 'Cuda as we’re working on getting his '69 Cuda notch back together, it’s an ex-drag car.
tweety’s last car was a balls-out Keith Black’d '68 Dart that ran a 9.90, with a slip and a dyno.
Hot shit.
wow man that is deff a sweet car
Thanks guys, yeah the old heap will be street legal, a ‘Cup’ motor with a big cam and no restrictor plate in the carb is good for 850HP for 500 laps, so it’s not much of a leap to put a few pounds of boost in it, limit the RPMs and double that.
Should be fun…
The Dash is from an Aussie Valient, as is all the front suspension stuff, and the car is very good for meeting girls at stop lights, you can pull up right at thier window- better not tell the wife though- tee hee.
Listen it’s 7.30AM here I have to get on with feeding time at the zoo, Tom’s kindly offered to post some pics for me, and if any of you want anymore info just PM me.
I’ll do a Skyline thread later, although the Hybrid boys probably have more info than me now!!!
Nice Mopar
oh wow. lots of cool stuff going to be out this year.
and yes, i will give you a BJ for a ride in that cuda…you know, just in case you were wondering.
Now all I need to do is find some lunatic to drive it at the track- I have just the man in mind if I can talk him into it…
Front tires arrive from jegs on Turesday, along with the MP spring relocation kit, I can’t believe I managed to get those old 28.5x10.5" slicks under the car without tubbing it? But the new springs will push the wheelbase back 2" and now with the 30" radials I have on the new rims it ain’t going to go in there, which is a shame, but moving the springs in 3" should help with clearance and some little 'mini tubs and some carpet you’ll never know.
Depending on hpw we do the intake plumbing I’d really like to get back to running a flat hood, the NASCAR oil pan is pretty shallow so maybe I can drop the engine down a couple of inches, the rear end is going down 1" or so- we shall see- I plan to have the old heap off the lift and on it’s wheels next week for the first time in over 3 years- even if it is only a dummy run!
Nah that one blew up LONG ago, it wasn’t -the oil filter though, just way too much nitrous…
I’ve used Fram HP1 race filters for years and never had a problem , doubtless they are all made by the same people in china, no matter who’s name is on the side??
Check this site out and learn they are not all the same.
