Another great name in motorsports was lost this morning. Marco Simoncelli was killed in a lap 2 crash in MotoGP. One of the most disturbing crashes I’ve ever seen… absolutely horrifying.
RIP… Keep dragging knee in a better place! You will be missed by many.
Yea, he was def. killed instantly thank god. I feel horrible for Edwards and Rossi… I can’t imagine what they are thinking right now. Regardless of if they could have avoided it or not, its going to screw you up mentally.
Simoncelli was taken to the medical center at the Sepang circuit, where he died of chest, head and neck injuries, organizers said.
“He was already unconscious when the medical team arrived (at the track),” MotoGP medical director Michele Macchiagodena said. “We attempted to resuscitate him but failed. He died 45 minutes later.”
There is no doubt in my mind that he was dead on the track… they just dont have anyone that can actually call it at the track… his body went completely limp as soon as he was hit.
Its a shocker, the only one who saw it coming was Lorenzo he predicted something like this would happen to Marco with his riding style back in May. ” He who does not follow advice might not grow old.”
yea, but it looked like he was lowsiding and tried to save it. He was way too low to the ground to be doing that on purpose… even if he hadn’t been hit he would have been in the grass…
RIP to Marco, and regards to the family, friends and fellow competitors. There was nowhere for the other rides to go, that’s racing and that’s life. Very sorry to see that happen.
Kinda creepy for me. Yesterday I finished up fixing a bike for a friend, who bought it from a fellow Marine who died in combat around this time last year. Got it running for the first time since he bought it, and took it for a test ride myself. First time being back on a bike since my crash 2 years ago to this month. Yikes, kinda makes the hair stand on my neck.
From what it looked like to me, he was Lowsiding. But, tried to save the bike by pushing up with his leg & elbow. The wheels regained traction and rocketed him right into Val and Ed.
Had he just let the bike go he would have lived, but he pushed it like he always does.
I can’t fault him had it been me I’d have tried the same thing.
I just so happened to finally get around to finishing editing my pics from Indy this year. I have to say… I didn’t even know him, yet I still got the chills editing the pics I have of him…
