road racing from 1992

a while back I created a thread regarding cars of the mid 90’s

http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?82952-In-1995-what-was-the-car-to-have

someone on SHOforum posted this roadcourse vid form 1992. It looked like a interesting race serise. Is there anything like this today? It might be a highlight video i’m not sure but there is quite a few spin outs. obviously I only know of this vids existence because there are 2 famous (in the SHO world) SHO’s in the race. The ninja turtle SHO and this one

they have “touring car” racing in europe which is very similar and is huge, you can recognize the cars ect… we have the Miata cup and a lot of other grass roots privateer series, but nothing that gets any serious publicity, nascar gets all the backing sadly. not meant to knock it, but the real “roots” of nascar are long dead and gone.

Yes.

Without looking up the specifics of the allowable car modifications for that series it would be something like Touring: T2 if the cars were stock (for current model year to back ~10 years cars):

If you wanted to race those cars today (from 1992) they would fit into American Sedan: AS, or Improved Touring: ITS, ITR, or ITE:

Now if they were tubed frame then that would be higher classing, but there exist classes for those cars to run today.

watching that made me want an IROC

god that looks like fun

if only it were more popular with factory teams.

Nice vid

Fixed. Advertisers and sponsors are only going to go where they can get the largest market share for their dollar. For the U.S. that means bootleggers going around county fair horse tracks.

SCCA has tons of racing with touring cars. Here are some other US based series that include touring classes:

Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge
Rolex Sports car series
ALMS
Speed World Challenge

There’s more…
