anyone prefer one over the other, and why…i am curious as they are similar in price, and ive heard +/- about both…just wondering if anyone had any experiences…
I went RP in my trans because that’s what all the cool kids do over at LS1gto.com.
Honestly, when you’re talking about super high end oils like RP vs Amsoil, I think the differences are going to be pretty minor.
Ive heard people say how much better AMSOIL is over RP, and the other way around. Theyre both very good oils, so unless there is some data out there directly comparing them both…
I like redline better…
can you get redline oil anywhere local or does it have to be online?
there’s a distributor a few miles from where I live in rochester… they sell to anybody it you know the secret handshake or have a decoder ring.
FWIW i’ve heard shitty things bout RP
i’d go redline/amsoil over RP
amsoil
motul
not a fan of royal purple, just my $0.02
I’ve heard bad things about RP too, I ran it a few times, and I went back to m1
i’ve used amsoil in every single one of my cars/bikes, never had a problem, i definitely recommend it.
btw, the air force uses it to lubricate their landing gear on the C-130’s, they test the viscosity of the oil monthly to make sure it’s doing it’s job, it is supposedly able to hold it’s original viscosity for up to 25k miles.
amsoil ftw, plus today me and layzie realized rp went up to 8.99 a quart!
Roil Purple =! High End.
Redline or Amsoil.
I run Redline in the Porsche transaxle and Amsoil in the BMW Engine and diff (e30) and e39 m5 diff.
I like Amsoil personally, but most cars are fine with any decent oil as long as it’s changed frequently and the vehicle isn’t abused. If it’s a moderate to heavily modified turbocharged setup like a lot of the cars we work on, then running something like Amsoil is a little cheap insurance and I recommend it.
We do?
Its hydraulic fluid in the struts, MIL-something something. IDK if amsoil is the manufacturer. As for the slipping surfaces like where the strut meets the truck its lubed with hydraulic fluid too. And its smells TERRIBLE! god i hate it! Almost as bad as the smell of the bacteria in the summer that grow insanely fast and die from the de icing fluid.
I haven’t been on a gear lube but I’m 95% sure its just your normal Mil spec grease through a grease gun. Like how it was on the previous plane that I’ve worked on
From what my uncle said yeah lol, he was stationed at McGuire’s AFB in New Jersey where he worked on them for 15+ years. Although i’m not sure WHAT part of the landing gear used it, I’m obviously not too familiar with planes lol.
Oddy’s sells it.
Cool beans, I’ve only been on the c-130 for 6 months lol. So I would take your uncles word for it. The other plane was much different. I just don’t remember a monthly landing gear oil analysis. Or even where there would be landing gear oil. The struts are a huge reservoir but thats hydraulic fluid… which i can’t see anyone using in anything practical on a automobile that shit is brutal
it might just be manufactured by amsoil then, i have no idea what details about it are, just that they apparently used it and it tested very well lol
