i think the focus needs to be put into developing larger capacities in solid state rather even bothering to put the development into a mechanical drive

In April Intel is planning on releasing their version in smaller capacities, sandisk already has a 32GB 2.5" SSD out. Still a bit on the high side, but after many years it looks to be turning into a reality.
That said it’s not hard to fill, but for a boot drive I want more speed.

Solid state drives also need improvement to, especially write speeds… ugh…
access times though are just one big fucking boner…
Yeah the write speeds are quite low, but it will improve as all technology does in time once it starts to go more into production. The same holds true for all storage devices.
Currently with the way it is the biggest benefit is mobile storage in terms of energy consumption/durability. And seek times which are next to non-existent.

Bingo, I’m really looking forward to these as well. It’s incredible how fast technology moves these days. I did some research on SSD’s like a year and a half ago and they predicted in 5 years, and its awesome to see less than 2.
The second generation i-RAM, GC-RAMDISK, was on display at Computex 2006 . Rather than using a PCI slot for powering the drive, Gigabyte has implemented the GC-RAMDISK as a 5.25" drive unit powered from a four-pin molex connector. The drive supports four DDR2 memory modules of up to 2GB for a total capacity of up to 8GB and the interface supports SATA II, which doubles the transfer rate compared to i-RAM.
I could get so much more done with that much speed.:headbang:
