Running Out of HD Space?

http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2949

Saw it in this month’s Popular Mechanics. Damn that’s a lot of space.

I could use that I’m sure.

Pictures are starting to take a ridiculous amount of space on my computer.

In fact, it took the industry almost 35 years to reach the 1GB level, another 14 years to reach 500GB, and now with perpendicular recording technology, only two years to reach 1TB.

What was that about living in exponential times? Wow. :jawdrop:

Still not enough space for SkunkApe to store his gay porn collection

we already have them

personally have not used it, but i have seen them

edit… stupid image…

umm, I really don’t see the point in this much space… i had my near TB box, and i couldn’t fill it… I really think they should focus on increasing read and write speeds instead of making them 901238012807123gb.

speed > capacity

dell is now offering TB in theyre xps systems

to the everyday desktop user. yes. its overkill

but for those that really need an ide/sata drive to have a terabyte of storage, yes. also if you are in the field, you dont need to carry 4 250gb drives, you only need one. and you dont need to keep re-booting devices to add more storage.

lol i can fill numerous tb drives, its simple.

yes, i agree with you. I really just wish they would focus on speed :frowning: Its a shame that capacity is just soo much more marketable…

.

SSD FTW, its not the size of the liner, its the motion of the ocean.

I want to see the life span of these bigger drivers…seems like your squishing more data into a smaller physical space more likely hood for issues.

399 not a bad price for a TB…

wow, you could fit a lot of nes roms on that

if anyone wants a 500gb hard drive, my roommate might have one he’d selling for $225.

it really is quite useful to have that much space. i can easily fill 2-300 gb worth of space.

$299 :stuck_out_tongue:

Definately :word: its not hard these days.

I think I’d wait, though. The more platters, the more heat problems it’ll have, not to mention stiction if you actually ever turn it off. Wait a year or two until they produce a two platter drive with 1TB of capacity.

Its not a matter of more platter.
(damn im good at this)
