are they actually the same thing? (Same dimensions, same flanges clocked the same way)
I ask this because I’m having trouble finding an S14 rear cat for some reason. I see the S13 one being sold, but there’s no listing for the S14 ones.

you could always get an unflanged cat and use ur current flanges from ur cat now
I thought the rear cat on the S14 was hollow because it had a cat in the downpipe?
well, apparently that’s what it is… it doesn’t make much sense if you ask me, but a few other people told me that as well. That’s why I had one hell of a time trying to find it. I found one for 150 bucks with flanges and all… I’ll pick it up tomorrow.
edit:
would this be a better choice?
high-flow cat, flanged properly for 240’s…
s14 secondary cat = platinum plated inside, its not the same as s13 rear cat
gut the second cat, it’s just a resonator - makes the car a little bit more quiet. replace it with a straight pipe if you already have a primary cat. The pic you posted would be great for a primary cat if you don’t already ahve one.
I got the primary cat with the downpipe… that should be in decent condition. The secondary cat is the one I wanna replace… so it would be useless to get that magnaflow high-flow cat then?
I can get that from PDM or the stock replacement one from a local store for about the same price.
Which one should I go for?
where did u find the flanged cat from ? do they have any for the S13 too ?
You see the S13 cat is much easier to find, and these guys should have it.
Give them a call: National Exhaust Systems Inc. 905-453-4111
In any case, here are the main differences b/w the S13 and S14 exhaust systems.
S14
S13
I called those guys up and they have the “resonator” in stock for the S14. The S13 actually has a real cat and my S14 cat is all the way up near the exhaust manifold which is welded to the downpipe. Which is pretty gay.
That S14 cat+downpipe costs 800 bucks from Nissan. You can check out the price list for the whole exhaust system here:

In any case, I hope this will clear up some confusion. I certainly was confused by all this for the past 2 days.
What you are calling the first resonator on the S14 is actually a cat and NOT a resonator, as stated above.
It is just a hollow cat, lined with platinum (as stated above). Don’t replace it, just straight pipe it through or just leave it in there.
The only thing that second cat is good for is to use it as your primary cat cause it looks like a normal one, it’s made by Calsonic, although the whole system is probably made by them including the res.
But yea, I had my old hollow cat, and I gave it away… I regret not keeping it, but I don’t regret who I gave it to, cause it will be used properly. Right Mo?
