So my car has been basicly problem free for me in my years of owning it untill a few days ago. I was driving along had the climate on defog for the front windsheild and then started to notice it was fogging up again so I turned my music down to hear nothing. It seems my blower motor is no longer responding. I checked the fuses they are fine I did not smell anything bad during it. Any ideas of where to look would be helpfull. Now no matter what speed setting I have it at the fan does not turn on, a/c still responds when button is hit and the direction motor still is working.
The resistor that controls the blower motor is known to fail on these cars. I replaced mine and the blower went back to working without a problem.
blower motor is gone… happened to me twice now. If just the resistor is gone, you should still be able to have the motor running at full speed when you flip the knob to the 4th position since the resistor is then bypassed (and you getting all 12V to the motor).
Ok I had a feeling that might have happend. Now I have to consider since I had my climate control system changed over to a JDM digital unit will that resistor be impossible to find because I remember having to have it wired in.
ive got the same problem.
how much is the resistor andis it hard to replace?
Ok well lets all figure this oddly common problem here.
I would agree about the resistor except for the fact that if the resistor were to blow it would not cause a short but would actualy be a break in the system.
I am going to when the weather is not raining try to look under the dash and see if I can find anything. If anyone has figured this out before and fixed it I am willing to make arrangments and maybe get a hand fixing this. I would make it worth their time to help out.
If the fan does not work at all, then it is likely the fan.
mine works at 1 and 4 only . nothign in between
Like I said, if the resistor is gone, only the highest fan speed setting will work, because the resistor is bypassed then. If it doesn’t work at all, then it’s a wiring problem or the blower motor itself seized up. If that’s the case, it’ll start burning the stator windings eventually, if you keep the voltage supply on… the fuses will blow eventually as well…
so go back and check the 2 wires for the voltage supply. Take a multimeter and check if there’s +12V between the leads on the connector. If there is, then the motor is gone, if there isn’t then you have a wiring problem.
Come to think of it my blower did work in the MAX (4) setting but nothing in between so that would indicate a blown resistor. BTW its located underneath the passenger side under the glove box.
if it turns out its the actual motor, i have one from an s13, i would assume their the same but i dont know for sure.
Ok once the sun actualy comes up here I will check my wiring and see whats up with it. I hope if it is the motor or whatever that its not going to be a huge pain to replace.
sidewayz240: I think it’s different. But there’s a way to get it to work for sure.
S14_240sx: It’s not a huge pain in the ass to replace Just take out the glove box compartment, move the ecu (3 screws I think) and then remove the 4 bolts that hold blower motor and the housing for it. It’ll just drops down then.
YAY! Lith your my hero lol as long as its true I will have to check in the morning then. If my motor is dead are they the same s13 and s14?
