S2000 opinions? The Miata story...

I’m not necessarily looking for anything “fast.”

i dont know about you but high 11’s at 118 is pretty fucking quick.

jesse quit being a chump, and just upgrade ur suspension and keep the miata

The car would have to be raised a good bit for the kind of clearance I think it’d need, and no, I’m not interested in driving a monster truck around.

Edit : It’s at stock ride height right now. It’s not like I have the car slammed or anything, guys.

didn’t the weight of the new drive line drop it ?

ls1 full driveline is less than 100 pounds over the stock miata motor

Not any more than having a second person in the car with me.

After all your bellyaching about the “low” ride height of your Miata, I decided to go down to my garage & measure the lowest points of my truck. It is pretty low for a fullsize, but I have engineered everything to be higher than the front crossmember & front airdam. This meant about 10-12 hrs in modifying the brand new $800 headers, custom fabbed trans crossmember, all of the exhaust tucked up in the frame, no other chassis/suspension component hanging lower, etc, etc.

My airdam is 3 1/8" from the ground. My front crossmember is 2 7/8" off of the ground (the oil pan actually is behind the x-member & lower, but too low to reach that far from the side/front of the truck while on the ground). My lower control arm mounts are 3" off of the ground. The spring pockets in the lower control arms are 2 3/4" from the ground. My frame rails are 3 1/4" at their lowest point. I have been driving this truck for about 10 years, exactly at this height, with the same exact tire size & do not have any major problems with bottoming out. Granted I do not use it as a DD, but you aren’t doing so, either. Sure, I have to be careful when entering a drivway, shopping plaza, etc., but my truck is extremely streetable. I am not concerned with the driveability of my truck and I have proven it by doing 2700 miles in a week on the '07 Power Tour (also 1600 miles in a week on the '02 Power Tour). I’ve never gotten it stuck & it rarely ever scrapes or bottoms out. If you would like, you can even come over here & measure it yourself, if you don’t believe me.

It sounds more to me that you are bored with the Miata & just want something new. If you had 3/4" of extra height, you would not be any worse off than my truck. You sure could pick that up with different tire diameters & possible spring upgrade.

Just my .02

very well put tod…i know my truck was just as low as urs too

who said anything bout monster truck?? w/e just figured id suggest it
i let you drive my truck and you change your mind hehe

that car in the pic above has PLENTY of ground clearance

i swear it doesnt have that much clearance now. i know that sounds stupid but i just was riding bikes with jesse and some other folk on the one recent warm day. who knows

Seriously, my Passat was ungodly low on 15’s and the only trouble I had might have been the occasional speed bump so you are all correct in that Jesse W is a whiner chump who needs to toughen up and quit bitching or buy a SUV and leave it be. I should’ve closed this thread a while ago but I enjoy this dude continually come up with excuses to argue an invalid point.

Get the fuck out of my thread then.

I’m going to post a pic of the subframe in a few minutes.

And of course, the batteries in my camera are dead. I’ll grab a pic tomorrow.

I don’t know why, though. This is Pittspeed, where everyone is an expert on someone else’s car that most have never even seen.

Look at the front end. Notice how low it hangs. As I said, I’ll grab a pic from the front tomorrow.

I’m not saying “the subframe may hit.” I bottom the thing out almost every time I drive the car and the subframe is beat to prove it.

This is a thread asking about S2000’s and maybe Cobra’s, and in the usual fashion, only a few have said anything usefully relevant.

I have also smacked the diff off of the ground on more than one occasion, and I’ll get pics of that as well.

i like that vdub

that car is jesse’s…

and calm down jesse, i just would like to see u keep it

Nah, I know you mean well, it’s no biggie, I’m referring to the other people bitching and talking about things they know nothing about.
