SAFC I vs. SAFC II

what were the improvements over the SAFC I that the SAFC II has?

what would you expect to pay for an SAFC I in good shape?

It’s not uncommon to see good used SAFC-I going for $250.

safc has double the amount of fuel correction points. i think 16 versus 8. so for example safc1 adjusts every 500rpm safc2 every 250rpm. i think correct me if im wrong

If your thinking of an S-AFC I then you might want to try the HKS S-AFR instead, it’s in the same price range, allot of the time cheaper because it’s not as well known as the APEXi brand is , but it’s got a higher rsolution ( more pints of adjustment), plus a learning system and a fuzzy logic idel system that helpts to control your idle without having to fiddle with it… ( I used it to perfection on a street ported rotary, not sure if any of have worked with a ported NA rotary but they are a PITA to get to idel under 1000 rpm… this thing idled it under 700 on it’s first try…

worth a look the APEXI S-AFC II has a few more points of res and a fuzzy logic idle system now… but it’s allot more then the HKS unit…

I dunno what your good deal is, but I would say something for 200 or less for an safc-1, depending on condition. I got mine brand new for that price. I think I have a site that lists the differences, I can post it tomorrow, right now I cannot access it…sooo…yeh. neway, safc 1 for cheap is sexeh. You can probably get a pretty good deal on something, and if you can find the safc 2 then go for it.

my buddy is selling a brand new safc 2 for 350 firm.

i am looking at an SAFC I for much less than half that, and i paid much less than $350 for my first SAFC II brand new.

there’s some confusion here and with anyone dealing with the Apexi stuff

the AFC, which is usually mistakenly called the SAFC-1, is the analog device with the 6 knobs on the front of it.

The SAFC is the blue screen version

and the SAFC2 is the new one.

The knob style ones are fine by all accounts. The only thing I’ve heard people complain about is the separate maps.

The AFC only has one map, and cannot be set to run a MAP sensor.

I think … LOL

I’ll have to dig it all up again.

But yeah, the AFC (with knobs) go for cheap. They usually get snapped right up. I’d love to get my hands on one. The old ones actually have MAF settings for cars built before the 90s

The only advantages to the SAFC II over the one are:
-more points to adjust on the RPM curve (12 points vs 8 points on the SAFC)
-knock readout (does work worth a damn, useless feature)
-option to switch between two maps (SAFC only has one map)
-one knob operation (its clumsy I liked the only 4 button setup better)
-It looks newer -if thats your flavour.

Whether you can justify spending an extra 75-100 dollars for those features is up to you.
I have seen SAFCs go for 250 on average and thats with the cheapy DSM crowd.
Personally, unless you run race gas alot and find yourself needing to switch between pump and race gas maps then I would go with a SAFC.
