Well, Just feeling this out, but the opportunity has presented itself to relocate (Paid for) out to Salt Lake City.
Now I dunno if this is going to pan out, but I’m looking at all the info I can.
I’ve been there for work multiple times, but that only shows me a tiny portion of the place.
Anyone have relatives there? Know people there? Been there for vacation? Spent time there? Recommendations on where to live? Pay differences? Car requirement differences? Etc. Any and all information would be appreciated.
ah nice, I got stuck there for an overnight two years ago when a connection got cancelled and was pretty much SOL. Even when I did find a bar they only served beer, WTF. They said you could only get liquor from the state liquor store or private clubs.
Yea, you just missed the change in laws; they changed something like Jan 1 2009 or something where there is no longer “private clubs”. The state still controls alcohol pretty strongly, but not as bad as all the stories I heard.
Beer is limited to 3.2% alcohol (or something close to that). Mormon chicks are hot as hell too! Walk around Provo, its hard to find fat or ugly broads.
I think this is the chance you have been waiting for, honestly. There is a possibility that this could be what you need to turn everything around. It is hard to justify picking up and leaving but you need to do what feels right, for you. I say if you want to do it then I got your back. Everything else is trivial.
Truth be told it would be a dark, dark, and gloomy day the day my best friend leaves. But, it makes me happy to see you succeed.
I love SLC. Spent a week out there, most certainly hammered. Its a very small town feel, and there’s everything you could ever need. Especially Miller Motorsports Park — There also seems to be an exorbitant amount of money there for some reason…
I lived there from 6/98 - 3/04, and for the most part, I liked it. Definitely conservative in every sense of the word. Still, despite it being the Mormon HQ, I got bothered by folks trying to sell me god 4x as much when I lived in Knoxville, TN.
The skiing is absolutely world-class, and if you live towards the South end of Salt Lake County (Midvale, Draper, Cottonwood, Sandy), you’re literally 30 minutes from your door to strapping skis/board on. FWIW, my favorite ski area there is called Brighton.
The mexican food is awesome.
The meth trade is shocking.
You’re 120 miles East of some halfway decent casinos (Wendover, NV)
You’re 120 miles East of the Salt Flats (put a Salt Flats speed event on your bucket list)
It’s reasonably cheap to live there…really not much different than here.
The sports scene there is decent.
Killer snowmobiling within a 200 mile radius.
Oh, Park City rules. Definitely one area of Northern Utah that isn’t uber-conservative
If there are any specifics you’d like to know, feel free to post back or PM.

FWIW, I always found JetBlue the way to go for that trip.
Love winter sports (snowboard nut); Rode Brighton one night, couldn’t make it there during the day. Have a Jeep 4wd already. lol.
All my trips from here are always Delta and SW… I’ve done that trip 1-2 times a month for the past year. SW is great because I can bring all my Snowboard gear for NADDA!
You work in ICD for Moog, right? What programs would you be working on down there? I’m honestly a bit surprised that were sending people that way after so much just got transferred here.
But either way, sounds like a good opportunity. Are you moving up?
LOL! I’ll pass… one of my co-workers always goes down there, it’s not fun right now… lots of issues in one shape or another. Our old President/CEO got offered and transferred down there and is now running it. (Where I work was an acquisition about 2 years ago).
If I do it and the negotiations work out, then I’ll be moving from doing Contract Disposables/Proprietary Disposables over to the Hardware/Pump R&D side of things. Same job, different product and different location, with a LOT more room for upward movement.
