I’m looking into a wheeler that was wrecked and totaled. Insurance paid it off and he bought it back. Claims it was a couple bent tabs on the frame, headlight, handlebars, and headlight mount. As far as registering it and insuring it, whats the deal? Will the registration say totaled?
i dont know about a quad but i know with a bike you need to take it to a NY state inspector and pay $200 for the state to deem the vehicle “fit” for riding, which pretty much means they will issue you a “rebuilt” title.
i didnt even know atvs had insurance?
yea i was thinking the same thing, its just a registration. go to the dmv and ask?
you can insure an atv, dirtbike, sled, and jetski.
for what purpose?
so when you wreck it the ins co pays for it, just like a car. or if it gets stolen.
you can insure anything really. houses, cell phones, people, etc
its also incase you somehow hurt yourself or others while riding the recreational vehicle.
Buy it, fix it… ride it.
You really don’t need to register a four wheeler if your riding it… Just don’t drive on the road and the cops can’t do shit.
You ever see a crown vic off roading? They don’t do it so good.
NY state requires that you insure it if you’re riding on land you don’t own. If you live on a big piece of property then it’s not an issue. My grandfather owns about 200 acres that I rode on when I was a kid so we never registered any of our ATVs or dirtbikes.
As far as cops: One time I was riding down a road near our property and a cop drove past me. He pulled a u-turn and tried to come after me, probably to yell at me to get off the road. I rode onto a trail and got away. He went to one of the nearby houses and asked the neighbor who I was and where I lived. He showed up and gave me a lecture about life and choosing between right and wrong. It was ridiculous, I was 14 and scared shitless.
nys requires registration, not insurance. I never had ins on my raptor and it was registered with a plate. only sleds need insurance. idk why though
