Salvaging a 2000 Mercury Mystique Question

Hi all,

I drove my Mercury Mystique to Detroit for a job fair and
drove back on the same day.

On my way back near Buffalo, the transmission blew up and my car
was towed back to Rochester.
Now the quote to replace the transmission was almost $2000 and it is really not worth my time to deal about it anymore.

I am thinking of disposing the car for good.
What is my best option?

A. Donate it and get $500 tax return.
B. Salvage it and get maybe like $100
C. Find someone who is willing to buy it.
D. Tear it apart and sell the parts 1 by 1.

For option D, I am not a mechanic and probably could not handle it.

Some info about the car,
2.5 V6 engine
Moonroof
15" alloy rims

Did anyone one dispose a car before?
Please let me know what companies I should go with if I decide to donate/salvage the car

Thank you very much for your help.

-Chris

Is the car is good shape other then the transmission? Low miles? If so I would try selling it as is. I just sold a car that didnt run but just needed someone with the time to make it run for $500 bucks and it was still clean for a 95. Parting it out will be a bitch and probably hard unless you went the ebay route. If everything else fails donate and get the tax write off.

the car IMO is barely worth 2000 in great shape…junk it and buy a Honda

ya the car is in great shape, but for some reason the public just doesn’t like that car and has low resell value.

so between salvaging and donating it which one is a better option?

Thanks again

Donate it for the tax writeoff.

Salvage you don’t get anything.

What color is the interior?

If you DO decide to junk it,let me know before you do. I may be interested in a floor mat or 2 and the cupholder. Maybe more

Let me know!

Have any pics of it you can share?
