School Me on Frisco, TX (Dallas)

I have a pretty nice job offer down in Frisco, and am considering the move. From what I can tell it looks like a decent suburn, but I am looking for more information about the area, where I should look to live, etc. I will be renting to start with. Looking to keep the drive around 30mins at most (Hah?).

I lived in Dallas and Waco love both places…Where ever you end up living I would really take traffic into account its horrible around the Dallas area.

Also isn’t Frisco up near Plano? and not so much Dallas proper.

Their hockey leagues are a lot shittier.

Yes, Frisco is just NW of Plano. I have been looking at the travel ETAs and basically anywhere out side of Frisco would be a 45min drive with traffic.

So Beck, you’re saying I might be good at last!? woo.

I love Texas, there are lots of fun things to do here. I’ve spend a lot of time in Denton working and it’s really nice up there. We have family in The Colony, which is also really nice.

Never been to Frisco, but I travel to the Dallas area a few times a year. Tons to do, nice weather (not this winter however).

I am about 3 hours south of there.

No state income tax, cheaper homeowner insurance, cheap gas.

Good place to make a living.

This winter has been the shittiest one in Austin, and its still fine. We only get 1 70 degree day per week instead of 3-4 during winter.

So I spent a week in Frisco, checked out several of the surrounding area, found a place to live and whatnot. Really, really nice area and couldn’t be more excited to get down there.

I will be leaving during late July and intend to take 2 days to drive down. I am planning on stopping in St. Louis, but for those that have made this trip is there a better route?

st louis was in my territory wheni travelled for work every week. it sucks.
would go to nashville instead which is actually on your route to tx.

Nashville > st louis

I was just in Austin. Had a great vibe but it was ungodly hot and humid while I was there. I’m just not super used to that being a product of the Northeast. Otherwise, getting around wasn’t bad, downtown Austin was fucking AWESOME, and I had La Barbecue which has officially ruined any sort of other BBQ for me going forward, specifically brisket. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Theres something to be said about TX. I’m not super up on tax advantages and all that for TX… but it seems like a great spot to be, and a very pro-America and American rights kind of state… aka guns.

When I moved to Austin from Buffalo, we stopped in Louisville for one night, then Texarkana the second night, and were in Austin by lunchtime that day. 24 hour drive I think.

Thanks all, my initial directions had me moving west across a more northward route. I will have to looking to drop towards Nashville more. My drive will be about 20 hours total, and it seemed as though St. Louis was just about perfectly 10 hours in.

Buffalo to Nashville is about 11 hours, maybe less if you’re pedal is down. Nashville is a great city, they have some great food and awesome bars (if you want to make an evening out of it). I would stay at the Hilton Vanderbilt its about $120 a night and right in the center of the west side uptown. Lots of live music, restaurants and bars. There is an amazing 5 course if you want to impress your lady and a really cool speak easy cocktail bar The Patterson House.

Plus the replica Parthenon is really cool.

Nashville to Dallas is only another 10 hours. Makes for a super easy and fun 2 day trip. Congrats man you’ll love Texas. If you need anything let me know I’m in Houston for the time being.

Appreciate the info, good stuff! This trip will be solo, but will be doing it again in September to move the girl down so I will have to check out the nicer places then. Think Patterson House will be calling my name though.

After a nice long drive a few good drinks and bed is perfect.

Actually the winters in Dallas have been rough lately.

I go up there on business and I’m turning in to a total wimp.
