screeching sound...

ok, i just want to make sure if this is the real problem. my car starts to make screeching sounds if i rev it past 3k rpm, and only when the car warmed up, or if its being driven for over 15 mins. its definetely the timing chain right?

if i were to replace it, would my engine run slightly stronger?

I have a similar problem. When i rev past 5k rpm it screechs. Someone told me to get some belt dressing. Havent tried it yet.

It’s your belts!@ They’re probably loose or old and when your motor goes past a certain rpm they will slip on the pulley and screech. Just change them, it’s not hard and no big dent in the pocket book.

One more thing, it’s not the timing chain.

I kinda had the same problem but mine were screaching before 3000rmp.
But again it was just the belt tenshioner was getting loose.

Yes check your belts, if they are new or replaced recently, then they may just be dry, use some all purpose lube and spray it on them and it should go away. Now would also be the time to check your belts to see if they are old or cracked, if they are replacing them would be advised.

And one more thing, i’ve used the CT Belts before, they suck! buy the nissan belts!

thanks guys! yeah, im gonna get it fixed at my nissan dealership.

I get that type of noise as well but only when i got my Air Conditioning blasting… :?

I also had screeching above 3K. My belts are pretty new also. Since the weather has cooled off a bit, it has gone away, but if I hear it again I think I spray them as mentioned above. I have also been noticing that it sounds like she’s sucking in a lot of air, or she’s restricted (in other words, my truck engine sounds like a truck engine  ). I checked the air filter and it’s a bit dirty but not enough to block anything. Is this the sign of something else going or ? It does sound pretty sweet when taking off slow though.

Im having a similar problem with my sr, when i hit 4000rpm it makes a loud rattling noise that sounds like complete ass. When i rip by other cars I can hear the sound much louder, as it bounces off the others cars body panels. Im gonna check my belts, but I dont think this is the prblem.

Might have something to do with exaust or rear brakes … try looking at them.

One of the heat shields? One of mine would vibrate around 3900 until I fixed it.

I had a similar problem with one of my heat shields rattling around 2000, I just ripped it off. Is that what you meant by fixing it?

Naw I figured they wouldn’t just put metal pieces there for no reason.
I bolted mine back down with new hardware

I had a similar problem, and even though it was the belts, I never really could track down why.

The frigging alternator pulley was loose.

Man, doesn’t matter how fast you’re going, squeaky belts will suck the cool right out of you.

What about that 240Z with the LS1?
His belts squeeled like crazy.

Then again the thing at WOT was so friggin loud you’d be hard pressed to hear the belts.

Yea im gonan check out the heat shield over the turbo because thats where it appears to be coming from. Thanks guys.

it was the pulley belts… when i took them out, they were cracked like a mother f*cker! replaced them and the problem was fixed.
