Seafoam Problems :s

I put in seafoam into my friend’s 91 Honda Accord through the brake booster line. Apparently it sucked in a bit too much and now the engine won’t start. I also replaced the sparkplugs which were wet but that does not seem to help. Should I let the car sit overnight and try again in the morning or is there anything else I can do?

Thanks!

Did you guys try cranking the motor with the throttle fully open?

Yes, we tried that and still no go.

Don’t put things in your motor other than oil.

Do a compression check ASAP. YOull have your answer whether you pooched the motor or not.

I bet you just fouled the plugs though.

And why on earth are you doing this? Do you think its going to bring back the 1-2hp youve lost from all the carbon buildup? If anything you loose power because the carbon build can actually increase your comp ratio by a bit.
Sorry Im just a real non believer in the stuff. Its like getting an enema.

In the future just put in some higher octane gas and octane booster.

If you want clean oil change the oil…put in some crappy regular oil…run it for a day…then drain it…do the same thing…no need to change the filter…run it for a week change it and then put a new filter and good oil.

liquid doesnt compress like air…if you got too much into your engine you could have done some damage in a extreme case…more than likley give it some time and she’ll start again.

I remember the bottle did say that it would cause the engine to have a difficult time turning over, considering its cold out and the engine is already having a bit of a tougher time with cold oil ect is there any way you can get the car into a warmer place to try and help it turn over. I did seafoam once and remember having to do like 1/3 of a bottle at a time in the brake booster and then let the car run for 10 min while black smoked poured out of the tailpipe lol.

Thanks for all the replies. I will do a compression test tomorrow to see if the engine is gone for good. Hopefully there is still compression.

i used that stuff on my old ka and it ate my injector seals

I did a compression test today and it went well. I just left the spark plugs out for the seafoam to dry out faster and I will try again tomorrow.

For all you non believers of this stuff, it does actually work. Your only suppose to use 1/3 of the bottle through the intake so I don’t know how much you actually used…im assuming more than that!
How do you figure that cleaning the carbon buildup inside the intake/valves/combustion chamber will result in a loss of power??
There is a company called Terra Clean that has a product very similiar to what sea foam is…its designed to free up hp that is lost by having carbon buildup/dirty injectors etc… there was actually an episode on dream car garage about this stuff with a before and after dyno on 2 different cars with actual hp increases!

Man this shit drives me nuts.

Get the frigging Dyno magic nonsense out of your head.

Where is my 20HP Sticker Thread when we need it most.

Ever seen the dyno test proving that stickers add up to 20 hp on a 240SX? I can assure you the dyno was 100% accurate, and the numbers were not doctored in any way.

The car was dynoed, stickers were added, nothing else, and it made 20 more horsepower to the wheels.

This was done to prove a point, unfortunately it just increased the number of sticker customers.

How’d they do it? Real easy. They used the 240SX as a delivery car all day in 30ºC California weather. They went to the drive thru, got everyone lunch, let the car idle for 20 more minutes outside, then brought it in and did the baseline run with the temp up well into H.

They brought the car next door in the shade, and took 2 hours carefully applying the stickers. When they threw it back on the dyno, it was down to operating temp, and made 10 more hp.

They went back next door, applied more stickers, and used a bag of ice to chill the intake and rad.

Made another 8.9 hp to the wheels.

Now that’s almost a 50 HP gain at the flywheel.

The point? If you’re looking at an increase of 2-5 hp, it means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. A dyno is not an exact science. A couple degrees difference in temperature, air pressure, engine temperature, fuel level, air quality, etc.

Now, a clean engine can lose power exactly how Kouki explained it. Carbon build up increases compression.

And you can all just fuck right off with your attempts at “ABSOLUTE SON reasoning”. No, I am not saying that if you keep letting carbon build up, you’ll eventually have a 12.5:1 compression ratio racing KA.

The simple fact is that if your motor is tired and old, cleaning it out will more than likely just highlight how tired and old it really is.

If you take care of your motor in the first place, it should run clean anyway.

Wow dude what the fuck do you have up your ass?? You seem to have it all figured out so im just going to stop here.

ok first off
mr200 needs to calm down…and grow up

2nd 85% of son guys dont know shit from cars

3rd seaform is a great product if you know how to use it
if your injectors seals blew out odds are they were on their way anyhow.
I have use the product so many times and I will cont to do so.

also as to your spark plugs fouling up… that kinda does not sound right… if your motor was at perfect operating temp b4 you started the slow pouring action of the seafoam you should be ok

by pouring to much at a time I can see it staying as a liquid but by doing it slowly you allow the seafoam to get sucked in more as a vapor/mist then a pour liquid.

My bet is you didnt do something right

I have to grow up because 85% of the people on this board don’t know anything about cars?

What’s the harm in a little tough love?

If you knew me, you’d know I’m my calmest when I’m angry and spouting off. But you don’t know me … and that makes me sad.

Man, I was just hoping to sell more stickers.

The only thing up my ass is what I had for lunch. Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go potty.

seafoam sucks. I had a blown motor and seafoam didn’t fix it.

lollllllllll. BMW dealers use Terra Clean on all cars that come in for a service… Seafoam is the same shit, just put in a user friendly package. If people can’t read directions, its not the products fault it fucks your motor up.

you obviously mis interpreted the whole dyno thing i posted about, but whatever you seem to have your mind made up about these types of products. I have personally experienced first hand many times how well this stuff works but Ill just keep that to myself.
Oh ya who ever wants some stickers pm me I got LOTS!

pm’d

Alright All of you relax… your all right. This seafoam stuff I have never used… but a clean combustion chamber is a good thing, so is clean ports and plugs… but if it actually does clean alot of carbon build up… It has better uses with turbo cars as carbon build up can cause hot spots and lead to detonation. Either way I’d rather have a clean engine than one with buildup even if it reduced Hp. On the other hand… cleaning up a few hp? now that I dont believe, first of all people need to stop chasing products that guarnee a couple hp. Its not like your going to feel a big difference with 2 hp if any. As to the dyno claims all the test have to be the exact same. You can never trust a gain of a couple hp from tv shows and magazines. If this dyno test was done and on the baseline test one guy stood in front of the car and farted when it was being tested,hp will drop and that would be recorded as the “baseline”. Mr200 said even the smallest things would affect hp numbers on a dyno, if your measuring these minute changed in hp anything can affect it… such as a fart, someones breath in the intake, the temprature of the engine… and a million other things. As to doing this go ahead just know what your doing, if you over do it you could damage your engine and if your really stupid and pour the whole thing in at once you risk flooding a cylinder and even popping your head as someone said liquids dont compress like gases.
