As an everyday car, the Spec V is awesome.
It’s got 4 doors, a largeish trunk, and easy access to the passenger compartment. The interior is functional, if not plush. The engine is torquey and doesn’t have to be driven hard to get good acceleration. It also has wicked point and shoot handling for slicing through traffic. If you take your first traffic circle or highway off ramp without a smile on your face, I’d be surprised.
Plus, the nicest thing is that no one expects anything from it. It looks like a boring 4 door sedan - I’ve never been pulled over in mine and it’s bright yellow. But I’ve surprised more than a few truck owners that try to accelerate hard to show off when they hear my exhaust. So much for being macho!
A hot rod, generally speaking, the Spec V is not. However, the day to day livability of it far exceeds any sort of limitations on it as far as the performance goes. That’s why I bought a Skyline GT-R - eventually I figured out that you’ll hit the brick wall faster modding the Sentra than the Skyline. If you want to go really really fast, get a summer car, but if you want a quick little shitbox for daily driving, the Spec V is up to the task.
nice dude, I just noticed you were from Stony, can I assume the Spec V is your daily driver? I dont think I’ve seen one around here in town.
Double post
Haha Chris remember a year and a half ago when you thought I was crazy for thinking that? :E
Yeah Louis, I sure do! :E
I don’t live in Stony anymore, but if you ever saw a Yellow Spec there with Brembos, that was my car.
I’ve seen one driving around on 170 a few weeks back, didnt get a chance to check it out very well.
Anyways, I’ve been doing a ton of reading up about this car, and quite frankly, some of the documented issues people are/have had with them is quite frightening. Other than issues with the QR25DE motor, the car seems quite strong, with only small annoyances, but with all the potential problems the engine has, I;m not sure if I should venture down the road with the ownership of the Spec V.
If you change the stock header and lock down your butterflies your off to the races… I did all of this on my 05 and now i’m almost at 62,XXX kms and it’s still going. I drive it like I stole it and I track it all the time. So not like I baby my car like Kris does… :E It my Everyday driver. I have something else for speed :tonqe:
Now, lets say I do pick up a Spec V, would I be able to grab the VIN and call up Nissan and see if the car falls into the VIN range of engine replacement?
You mean the recall? Yes, they can do that.
all u have to do is ask the owner if the recalls are done. if there not done nissan will do them for free just make an app. like ryan said the only problems with this car is the precat&butterfly screws& if u get a aftermarket header on there that will fix that problem. and u can just ask the seller about the screws.(but im sure everyone on here has fixed that prob forsure) but if any of these problems happen and u have a warrenty then dont worry as ur going to get a new engine anyways.
as for the car on 170st… black or silver or green? i have the black one. xrider has a silver one. and some guy that i see all the time has a green one(we all live in the west end)
and ryan… 62xxx kms? holy shit!!! where u drive? i only have 65xxx and my car is 2 yrs older. u must do alot of traveling.
ive yet to track my car mostly bc i only had it since this last summer so i never got a chance. and the lady before me definatly didnt track it bc she had a baby seat in the back…
if u want something new thats reliable w/ some powa and good gas mileage then the spec v is a good car. like i said let me know ill take u for a ride and u can see what its all about.
If you can get me the VIN # I can take it to work and check it out for you. Especially if it’s been serviced at Ericksen.
Either way with the VIN I can check whether the recalls have been performed on it or not.
nice dude, I’ll see what I can do. Right now it’s up in the air, i ended up finding something a little more expensive, but it is a year newer and has less than half the kms on it, so I have to make some calls to see what I can do.
If your really worried take me along… :E
for owners here, would you mind posting some pictures of your Spec V’s?
cool, thanks for the info on msn, dude.
You wana sell me your SER emblem?
lol no. thats the only 1 i got. the owner before me kept all the other ones from the doors.
try ebay.
