Server 2003 + ATI Radeon 9500 = OpenGL Error

Basically I can’t get my video card to play Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory. I keep getting an OpenGL error, obviously it has to do with my video card and I would like to fix that. The video card I have is an ATI Radeon 9500 and the OS I’m using is Windows Server 2003 Datacenter. I’ve been playing around with Server 2003 just because I heard it was more stable than XP and other OS’s (which I’ve actually found to be true). Plus it’s pretty simple to use like XP. I’ve yet to have a problem with it except for this one. Hopefully one of you tech nerds can help me out :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks

i dont think you should be running a server os for gaming… they arnt designed to do that… they are designed for serving up files and being reliable…

but…

back to your question… did you try to find drivers for that card for server 2003? you might have a problem finding them… reinstall the xp drivers and cross your fingers.

Try downloading ATI’s latest catalyst drivers if you havent already.

If that dont do it,try the omega gaming driver…

http://www.omegadrivers.net/

I use omega drivers for my 9700

Servers are more stable - but using 2003 server for gaming is like telling a hummer to autoX.

well put howie

hahaha true, but my buddy has been running Server 2003 flawlessly for games for awhile now … specially Wolfenstein

Dunno personally I had a ton of issues with an getting an ATI 9200 work with HL 1 & 2 in Server 2003 both using D3D, and Open GL modes. Ended up loading XP on the system.

It’s kinda like using a JackHammer to nail a board to a wall, pretty much no point in using it at home unless you are running a server.

you can have my 9800 pro for $50 if you buy it tonight

That right there is a nice deal.

Some 9800’s bios flash to 9800 XT’s.

sold for 50 tonight. sry

a quick check of ati’s website says nothing of server 2k3. so XP support is about all you’re going to get from them.

and because I just have to know, what is your reasoning for running server 2003 datacenter? Are you running a 32-way multiprocessor machine or something? You need 128GB of RAM? Seriously. What is your reason? If you MUST run a Server OS to play games just use standard server because you obvioulsy aren’t using legit software anyways.

When I played Enemy Territory I had a 9500 pro and XP and it never crashed. Not to mention it dont require much to run being that its 4 years old.

That link should help you out.Try older driver versions, try updating the newest directX also.

i was thinking the same, server 2k3 is maaadddd loot

Im pretty sure most graphics acceleration is disabled in server 2k3 since normally it shouldn’t need it… OpenGL, Direct3D, etc, there’s a certain way to enable it all but I forget… there’s a good site out there to help u turn server into a workstation, google around.

the reason I’m running Datacenter is because that’s what I got a trial cd of … 180 days. plus I’ve been told that Server 2k3 is more stable than XP. Almost all of the XP drivers work for running your hardware with the 2k3 OS.

I also found a place that tells ya how to convert your Server 2k3 into a Workstation ~~~> http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/

now I can play music, games, whatever I want …
