Your friend should check out Suters Auto Service. They’ve been open for a pretty long time and do some pretty cool stuff (ls1 swapped 9 series, a bunch of decked out 850s and some pretty cool s70s). There is an old codger just off Hwy 6 in Guelph who is a Volvo Jedi, I could get the number / address if you need. You can’t miss his shop, about 50 volvos in the lot.
