I’m not positive yet, I need to charge up the battery tonight and then test it, but I think the rectifier regulator is shot on my R6. In case it is, does anyone happen to have one laying around? I have a ride this weekend that I am helping to put on through the American Legion Riders and I would like to have the bike fixed by then. Let me know if you got what I need, and I will test everything tomorrow to know for sure.
Kenny
Kenny,
Since you probably know more about the electrical stuff then I do, my suggestion would be, If you have not already done so, check your hardness. Could be just a bad plug or connection. If the plug is melted then it might be the rectifier.
Hope this helps.
+1 to what Rocket said
sometimes the plug burns out (not the actual rectified), and to fix it you just need to do some splicing. fingers crossed that its not the actual rectifier.
here’s a how-to for the 99-02 R6, should be somewhat similar for other years.

I thought maybe it was the plug but the plug was fine. I put it on a trickle charge and its actually already almost fully charged. I pulled it off the charger and it was at about 11.2v. It started on its own and the voltage started climbing so I think everything is good and the battery was just dead.
I think what it may have been is I just picked up a new battery about 3 weeks ago and decided to go with the maintenance free extreme battery from advanced. They say they don’t require an initial charge and because it was a nice day and I wanted to get on the bike I didn’t charge it. Then the bike sat for 2 weeks so I’m thinking it just wasn’t completely charged from the box and the 2 weeks without running and with the alarm being armed just killed it. I’m going to check the voltage at 5k tomorrow but I didn’t want to piss off the new neighbors just yet… lol
Glad it wasn’t the regulator
Yeah those batteries come like 75% charged or something. Happened to me too.
IIRC the instructions say to trickle charge before use Kenny…
I looked through the instructions and didn’t see anywhere where it said to charge initially. It did say that whenever it needed to be charged that it required a trickle, but nothing about charging it beforehand. Either way, not a big deal. The bike fired right up this morning so I’m going to test everything when I get home just to be sure… and then probably wire up my high beam garage door activation… oh yea.
This guy figured out a way wiring the garage door opener to his horn. You married right? rofl

Haha you’re a wiring guru. I love it.
Yes he is…anytime I come across an electrical problem Kenny is the first person I call :rofl
