yeah… buddy of mine just picked up a 540i m sport… love the 6 speed.
I fear BMW maintenance. They are wicked nice cars though, still 16-18K for a decent one.
maintaining the v8’s is a little much, plus the usual shimmy’s and shakes, but all in all, every bimmer i’ve owned has been reliable and easy to work on. the parts really aren’t as bad as you’d expect though.
the dealer will kill you as always, but if your like me and do your own work, it isn’t really an issue.
the e39 540/ m5 is basically the bread and butter for the shop working on them. they’re owners typically have money, and there is a great deal to be made wrenching on them.
edit: 16- 18k is a hell of a lot of money. i can pick up something nice for under 10. the 540 my buddy just got was 7k with only 110k miles. my e34 was only 3k, my e36, 5k, etc…
