Ok guys…its here! can’t wait to come up to edmonton and meet you guys! but first i need to get the car to START lol!!
Battery is pooched, which is no surprise, i was warned of that. just bought an 89 240sx battery from wally world and the damn connectors are too small for the battery posts because the battery that is in there is SOOOO small! like maybe the size of a kleenex box haha. anyway if i boost it it starts and runs great, but without a boost, absolutly nothing…not even a click, it’s like turning a key in thin air.
I’m certain of one thing…the car scares the SHIT out of me
It’s my first turbo car and It’s going to take some getting used to, RHD and all, but all and all it’s one fine f*cking sil!!
anyway what are my options…find a battery with smaller posts? or modify the clips? which one would you guys suggest?
Just throw on some new battery terminals.
I’ve ran around looking for a smaller battery with the smaller terminals, but I couldn’t find one. Its definitely worth while to install larger connectors and use a bigger battery for our winter weather.
Miata batteries have smaller posts. Will the vehicle be parked inside most of it’s life? Will you install a block heater? I’m not sold on the big battery idea, if you’re planning a FMIC or don’t want the weight to take away from performance.
on my 180sx currently I have a generic 240sx battery from canadian tire which I have fit in the stock location, replacing the small useless battery which was dead as well.
I bought the large plastic battery mounting try which comes with the plastic uprights and plastic screwdowns. I also picked up the larger posts from can tire as well and re clamped the ends and it has been just fine and is a must for the winter. Even if you did find a small bettery i dont think it would do you any good in the winter to be honest.
I also installed and inline heater in my car just incase as a block heater is sort of out of the question and a question of if they even make them for this car …maybe for a s12 200sx ???
thanks guys, good to know the generic S13 battery fits along side the CA18, was having doubts haha.
should I snip the clips off of a 240 from the wreckers? or can I buy them at canadian tire? looking to get this done and over with tonight or tommorow so I can actually get some hours logged driving it!
yeah just get new ones at canadian tire …only trust new battery posts …only like $3 bucks
hey man u know that battery you got for your car? well if u want i can get u a batery with the right posts for 60 bucks charged! and they are SWEET, they work awesome…just let me know and u can snag one if u come up friday!
rob
yeah I saw those in your guys car when you came up for the v8less show …white with a blue top and yellow tabs I think …was weird to see new jdm small batteries …
they would be good for summer but not for winter …I just put a large one in my black 180sx …cost 60 bucks including new posts and tie downs
yeah man they are good batteries! and true not good for winter at all! well actually i take that back! my silvia started up first try in an un heated garage wiht little hesitation in -40, i dunno how long th batterie would last doing that though! but for a small batterie thats pretty good
There actualy batts for tractor haulers. I found them at altra-battery. Im sure you can get them up there too. All you have to tell the battery people is that you need a small batt with the small posts with the number NS40Z 12v35ah and they can look them up.
