Private shops do this all the time, especially tuner or race shops where people dont need their cars to get to work. They stack their back lot with work because it’s the best way to make money. Businesses do best when theres a line out the door. So they balance efficiency with customer service and as much as they can get away with. They usually arent bad people, they’re just trying to make as much money as possible.
I’ve had good luck with shops by going over exactly when (and sometimes why if you need to beef your argument) I need the car done by. If I dont need it done for 3 weeks, then thats what I’ll say. If I’m leaving for the track tomorrow and the car’s gotta be on the trailer in 3 hours, then it’s 3 hours.
I’ve had a few places tell me they could get things done and didnt come through in time, just because they didnt give themselves enough time to finish it. I just dont go to these places anymore, there are plenty of shops looking for business.
Anything that I cant do myself (motor builds, major chassis stuff mostly, or anything when it’s too cold), I bring to Adam Hennessey. Most of his customers are tuners, racers, or track junkies that work on a similar schedule. Adam, you on here?
