SNOW FAIL [Lake Effect Storm Dec 2nd, 2010]

We get a little snow and people are stuck on I90 for 13 hours?!?
Discuss.

I guess a jack knifed truck started all of this but, this still seems like a big fail.

The first time it snowed like an inch people were spun off into ditches on the 400. I mean how the fuck is this possible unless your going like 95, drunk, trying to drift down the 400.

Bonus points for the first person to post the first picture of the year of a car flipped over.

People are fucking retarded.

People were getting stuck in parking lots last night, when we had a few INCHES. My car is fairly in-capable in snow, and has balding all seasons. I don’t see the issue.

Idiots are everywhere…I pulled a couple people out…Pushed a few out.

4WD + jeep = unstoppable

I’m amazed it took this long for a snow thread.

I like the snow, im off today  My truck has brand new 33inch Bridgestone Dueler At’s, they seem to do ok, my truck is big and heavy, this snow is actually really slushy because the ground is still warm.

Ok I have an AWD TBSS and there was enough snow in the driveway where it came UP to and covered my rear bumper and my 20’s were covered. That was the first time I have EVER had to partially dig myself out of anywhere in 3 years. There is definitely a decent amount of snow. I wish I could post up a pic I took with my iPhone this morning

I had not problem getting around yesterday in my WRX

I have my brand new tires (listed above), I had to use four wheel drive yesterday… well i could of feathered myself around the roads but figured i’d be holding up fwd cars lol.

EDIT: My truck is heavy and has weight in the back toooo

Set up a free photobucket account and get the free photobucket app. It makes it really easy to post pictures online from your iphone because it provides the IMG links.

So why does it take 13 hours to tow a truck? I am trying to imagine this situation and am having a hard time. 13 hours?!?

Yep! Or MMS/e-mail it to your photobucket mobile account address

I have my brand new Subby with AWD but haven’t been able to take advantage of it yet. Even in the 3 years I had my Saturn Ion I only got stuck once at my sister-in-laws house because they have a gravel driveway, and had about 2+ feet of snow, and their driveway slopes down into drainage at the end.

Combo of a few things…

1 - You are getting some pretty big snowfall totals in a short period of time. It’s a pretty intense band on radar and from what I’ve seen online in photos, it’s piling up fast.

2- It’s likely the first snowfall that the majority of people have seen. That instantly creates a bunch of retards crashing and going off the roads, even if it isn’t that bad out. Plus, that first snowfall always weeds out the people whose tires are near bald, but thought they were still fine.

3- It hasn’t snowed in Buffalo since what, last February or something? That leads to some VERY rusty driving skills. Couple that complacency with the fact that people are getting less and less intelligent and trying to multi-task more and more while driving, and it’s obvious that people cannot drive for shit anymore, even when it is sunny and 75 out.

I’m jealous as shit too. We have jack shit for natural snowfall here in Vermont since the 18" elevation driven storm in mid-October. Brand new snows and I’ve needed them twice, once for the October snowfall, and once last Friday for an ice storm. I wish I could take some of that snow off your hands.

Meh. First snow, last snow, people are just stupid. I saw at least 6 cars off the road on the 90 between Batavia and Buffalo Friday night. Granted the road was really bad. Had like 2 inches on it and you usually couldn’t tell what lane you were in (no plows seemed to be out) but visibility was fine so people were still barreling down what they thought might be a lane doing 70 when the rest of us were cruising along at 40-50.

Winter driving skills should only be need in snow and/or ice. When we get a dusting and people are hitting the ditches, they need to stay home.

I need to get my summer tires/wheels off and the winter set on…sorry

I had a interesting night driving my evo with nitto track tires on it down the 90 to the airport.and it wasn’t 1 jackknifed tractor I think I counted like 10 that were covering the road lol it was fuckin nuts.then I went to mighty taco in e.a at 12 to binge eat from the stress haha

The thing that bugs me is that I usually have the cars prepared for this stuff, and look forward to barreling through the snow with my new tires and such… but most of the time im driving it really doesnt matter because I get stuck behind someone who doesnt have snow tires or a car ready for snow.
