Snowplowing laws in the city

I was just wondering if anyone is familiar with with any snowplowing laws in the city.

The guy across the street from me has a plow service, and they plow all his snow up onto the bank in front of my house, and the bank is so big it’s half in the street, he often bashes the snow into the bank so hard it goes over onto my cleared sidewalk, and this morning he even 1/3 covered my driveway approach with like 2 feet of heavy packed snow.

I realize there is less and less places to put the snow, but when I snowblow I make sure it doesn’t get into anyone else’s cleared areas. Now I have double the work to do whenever their plow guy does this. It’s basically like I have to clear my driveway, and half of his snow from his, which takes forever.

Is there any ordinances that prevent this? I know in rural areas they have to keep the snow off other people’s property, but I’m not sure about the city.

Thanks

snow needs to stay on their own property, it is illegal to plow across the street in nys as far as im concerned. I have been warned several times for pushing snow across a street for one of my customers. Directly across from their driveway is just an open grass area. Police have told me that its not legal to plow the street, or across it because its a hazard to people driving. most plow guys leave the rows in the road and people drive through and crash or whatever. Then again, the city usually ignores everything logical so…you gotta complain about it. Your best bet is to confront the plow driver about it. Ill usually do whatever it takes to keep my customers and their neighbors happy. just ask him nicely not to do it, and tell him why.

afaik you can’t push snow across the street.

I have a plow route and I had to change what side of the driveway I was putting snow at this one because the neighbor complained. So you could either say something to the person, call the plow service directly, or call the police

I think you can probably resolve this without having to get into what’s legal etc. Just ask your neighbor to mention it to the plow guy. Hopefully he’s reasonable and the issue will end there.

Unless your neighbors hate you.

I’m on good terms with my neighbors. In fact I snowblow one of my neighbors driveways, and clear the sidewalk for probably 10 houses. This is happening at both driveways.

I plan on just talking with the plow drivers, I don’t want to escalate it unnecessarily.

I just wanted some info about legal obligations if they give me the “no place to put it” excuse. With a couple extra maneuvers, they could just plow the snow to the end of their customers driveway, and then, approaching from the street, ram the pile into their own snow bank, which is like half the size of mine now anyways.

It took me 2 hours with a good size machine to clear both driveways, most of the time it was widdling at the heavily packed banks. The plow guys are here and gone in under 5 minutes. Jeezsh

Thanks all. Can’t wait for this shit to all just melt away…

I agree with what has already been said. What they are doing is illegal, and just talk to them. They don’t want to deal with legalities just like you don’t.

Or tell them to put the snow wherever they want but they have to do your driveway for free. lol.

This is the first year I’m paying for snow removal… because I’m just that lazy lately… and it was totally worth it. $250 for the season and the driveway is 150’ long and has a 30x50 parking lot in front of my garage.

wow i was charging 200 minimum for like a 4 car driveway, and 400 minimum for 8 cars or more. All these cheap fucks charging 250 are screwing the market for real.

Yep as stated above can’t plow into the street. I had some fucktard plowing shit into oncoming traffic on SHERIDAN DR. Needless to say my Legacy blew through the pile he pushed into the street

Screwing the market or screwing the people taking advantage of the market?

Just because it is a big area doesn’t mean it is an expensive job… it is actually really easy to plow because I don’t park my shit in the driveway and he can whip right through it.

You must be plowing in the city or something, people by me aren’t desperate to get their driveways plowed and there are more plows on my street than there aren’t. Heck, I have a plow sitting in my garage… that I just don’t feel like using.

Is this for serious? lol.
the guy across the street from my plows ALL of his driveway snow right on my side of the street next to my driveway.
He has no snow banks/piles aside from what the plows put there… and I have this giant mountain that I can’t see over when I leave in the morning… and most of it ends up in my cleared driveway area.
It also makes it a total pain in the ass for me to back up in to my driveway, because I pull past my driveway then back in… since I never back out as I live on a fairly busy rural street (about 10 seconds away from Jan’s smoke shop)

Can’t plow across the street huh…? Is that a NYS law or Erie county? (I live in Genesse and I know tons of shit is different here)

cant plow the street at all doesnt matter what county. I have plowed up on main in batavia and cant do it there either. I have plowed everything from city to rural, all over nys and no matter where you are across the street is a no no. Even on the plow forum we had a discussion thread about it and there wasn’t anyone that claimed they could push across the street in any state.

Is there some kind of liscense or something you have to get to be able to plow?

As of now, i dont believe there are any towns that require a permit or anything. Even if there was i would imagine that it would be extremely diffcult to enforce. I have been plowing for 8 years, and i have never once been pulled over, questioned, checked, or anything like that. The main pitfall is insurance prices on a vehicle with a plow. If you cheat on your insurance and wreck something it can be a nightmare.

No. Didnt you hear about the extreme snowplowing scam here?

I heard they undercut the legit plow companies and didn’t plow anything. I’m sure there is more.

I thought shredd and Ragan said u need a permit but nobody checks?
