Well its in pretty bad condition but I am really really looking forward to it
Hmm I think I’ve had a change of heart I’ll post up my project thread Should encourage others when there are more project threads
Best wishes for your project mate, really looking forward to some results. I wish I had a garage like that.
As some encouragement, I’ve seen WORSE, FAR WORSE, I mean ROTTEN WORSE, and it turned out frickin amazing (done properly no bondo crap, etc…) looking better than out of factory… all it takes is either lots and lots of money and time, or lots of time/space/tools/patience/trial n error… but the results are always refreshing and a good feeling
i already grinded most of the rust off. these are the before pics, i will have the after pics as soon as the hydro comes back on at the cottage.(its been out since sonday) the rust is not as deep as it looks in the pics.
not to sure what i am going to do with this car yet. i only paid $900 and runs like a champ still. if i decide the car is not too far gone i will do an sr swap but we’ll see. floor and rails are still good.
as for time and tools…
i got laid off for the winter and am waiting on EI (damn their slow)
for tools i got
flux core welder
mig welder
arc welder
plasma cutter
laith (not sure how to speel that)
drill press
compressor and all air tools
every other tool you can imagine
just waiting on hydro to get thier ass in gear so i can go back to work on the car
I give you two thumbs up Looking forward to that progress. You motivate me to do the chassis restoration all by myself haha… I so would if I had my own house, wife and I still in appartment and I doubt my friend would let me use his garage for this long (would prolly take me a couple of months…). I’ve decided I’ll post a project thread (just not right now sorta busy)… so you’ll see the state of mine. Aaaaaah Canada… I hate salt. Car has not seen winter since I bought it in 2006 and never ever will again.
the main purpose i bought this car was for the “learning”. built a bunch of race quads back in the day and believe or not working on cars is sooooooo much easier than working on ATV’s. the last bike i did was what i called a cr250ex. (cr250 in a 400ex chassis)
i just got this car out to the cottage last week. the garage at my house is shit. i was out working on my s14 at about -15. after about 5 hours i called it a day when my eyes started freezing shut. lol
in the end i hope to take the knowledge i gain from this car, to work on others. i’m also taking an online mechanic course to help with this journey. but if the car is too fuct it will just go back together and i’ll run it until she cracks in half. when that happen i’ll throw it in the gutter and go get another. lol
^^LOL, well, learning is learning. Trial and error at its finest. Please post some more before/after pics, and a short order of operations so that I/everyone can see how you managed to clean the body up. As soon as I get my hands on some tools, (and another job, got laid off aswell), I’ll be attempting to tackle my s13 aswell.
thought i would throw in a picture of my winter ride
wow bro, your really doing well on that project of yours
It’s honestly great when you know your stuff around cars, especially be able to fix or handle the rust on your own haha
my head is still ringing like hell from all the grinding i have been doing.lol
this is the first time i have welded something like this. i feel it turned out well.
taking a break for a couple days. i think i will go back out to the cottage thursday or friday to get at it again.
