good start?

ok so i just bought an 89 240sx coupe 5speed with 118 000km on it. ka24e of course. it has a racing clutch and a short shifter. for body it only has 1 spot of rust that has actually penitrated the metal and its only about the size of a loonie. and both front fenders are shot. i plan to make it look nice and i will have the time, money and shop to work on it cuz i wont be driving it till next summer. its not going to be winter driven and it hasnt been yet. so heres what i plan to do with it.

  1. brakes all around (calipers, rotors and pads)
  2. full tune up (fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, rotor and cap)
  3. 2 new front fenders.
  4. new paint job
  5. coilovers and swaybars
  6. catback exhaust
  7. hopefully an sr swap

now i will be doing all the work myslef as i am fairly knowledgeable with cars except for paint. i might prep it to save money.

i baught the car for $1650. i make about 6-700 a month and will be making 1000+ a month in the summer.

is this a good way to start?

Introduce yourself first in the New Users section!

1000 a month?
your gunna have to work all summer for an SR swap

You really should Introduce yourself first

look all over, literally crawl all over it, mine is relatively mint but there was more rust than visible, especially on an 89 its more than likely got ninja rust (rust thats there, you can feel it but you cant see it)

sorry im eric
i live in waterloo
and im 16 lol
i had it up on a hoist. theres rust but its mostley just surface. cuz its never been winter driven. the under body is flawless that mainly why i bought the car

Dude-bud.

Your list of “to do” is great, but before you go all nuts with a heart transplant, you should work on suspension + getting used to the car. You don’t want to go crazy with modding the shit out of it, and then not being able to drive it during the downtime + the lack of experience driving a RWD car.

As for suspension stuffs, grab subframe bushings, replace all arms, and rods, motor and tranny mounts, maybe even grab some wheels + tires.

Drive the car during the summer, have fun, you don’t need an SR to enjoy an S13.

Save some more dough, grab some seats, front and rear strut bars, exhaust, and also save up for parts that are compatible with the SR. Such as a radiator, FMIC, IC pipping, clutch etc.

Not knocking you because your young, just giving out some advice. Of course, it’s your ride. Do as you please, just don’t be like the avg. s13 owner and drive a rusted to shit bassboat powered by a stock SR.

Cheers!

Nice buy.

Go around you car with a fridge magnet, if it doesn’t stick then its rust (Ninja rust) haha. Unless its the bumpers, then duh they are plastic.

Your plans sound alot like mine. Just bought coils, full tune up done. Paint is a waste of my money imo, unless you do it yourself.
