On the Seneca nation, they don’t have police. They have Marshalls. And they’re not controlled by any form of the US goverment, I think. And I don’t believe they have any fire halls on the nation’s property either. I think they get SS from their jobs though.

Well call me politically incorrect (and I would take it as a compliment) but if they are not paying taxes because some white guy took their great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather’s land 600 years ago then I say tax them. We don’t owe them anything. African Americans have to pay taxes and we brought their great-great-great-great grandparents here and then enslaved them.
If they are operating as a totally sovereign nation then that’s different and we’ve got no right to tax them. If they are benefitting from our tax money without contributing because of something that happened 600 years ago then fcuk em.
I do too. They’re usually strategically placed around their first mobile home. When they upgrade to an actual house they just kind of burn everything.

They pretty much do operate as a sovereign nation in the sense that they have their own form of police, their own snow plows, etc. etc. The rez is plowed better than Erie County.

This is an interesting point.
I am not knowledged enough on indian nation / nys laws to know what type of rights we do or don’t have to tax goods purchased on indian land, but I would think that NYS could legitimately setup customs agents on all of the roads out of the nation and make you pay duties on any goods coming out.
If they living in such poverty then how is cheap gas going to benefit them? I’m not really sure how their situation works but I can’t see them geting any benefit form the gas stations selling cheap gas other than the fact that they can get a job at one of the gas stations.

agreed. I think that we have a diffenent view though, as we went to school/partied/were friends with alot of native americans thru school. not saying that nobody here is or anything, but lakeshore does have a pretty heafty native american population (that and silvercreek/gowanda)

I dont know… how would you feel if you owned your own “country” so to speak (a private island if you will) and people come over and said, this isnt yours anymore… go live with everyone else over “there” (or say you owned a home with 60 acres of land… then someone knocked on your door and said “yeah, this is no longer yours… go live over at this apartment complex”)
