E36’s are sick ass cars.
Parts and maintenance can be pricey, especially if you don’t do your own work. I’d just keep the VW especially if you’re driving it year round.

Pick up the 4dr shell that’s for sale for dirt cheap.
Keep the VW as the winter car.
Swap the motor and enjoy the self made M3 for 1/4 the price.
