So Kumho Showed Up at RIT...

Kumho was out there doing driving demonstrations for local dealerships and tire places. It was/is technically a closed event. They have a mini autocross course set up, with three MX-5’s for driving. One had V710s, one had ASX and one had SPT’s.

I got to talking to one of the guys, and he was more than happy to let Dave and I take the cars out once he found out we had done autocross a time or two, and that I’m a very happy Kumho customer.

I was very surprised at hell well the ASX’s handled, for being a street tire. I think I’m going to get a set of those next time I’m in need.

Fastest time for me on the V710s was a 23.6. The guys were like “Um, you’ve done this before, haven’t you? You’re beating all of us.” hahahaha

Also got free lunch, drinks, a Kumho hat and a Kumho keychain lanyard.

Got quite a few runs in - man, those little MX5s are FUN! Too bad they were auto-stick but that’s understandable. My best on the ASX was a mid-low 24, like 24.45 maybe? 710 was .7-1sec faster… but I didn’t pay that much attention to times (as we all know I’m slow) - but I will say I was SUPER impressed by the ASX, sure, nowhere near as much grip as the 710s but unlike my previous gripe about Kumho, these “come back” fast - and were very controllable. 710s needed more front camber up (insides were almost COLD to the touch haha) but they have TONS of grip… I can’t wait to steal Cassie’s Boxster now that she has a set lol…
