i found the A8 “First” commercial. i still don’t get it. half the time your posts crack me up, but the other half, confuse the hell out of me.

In before the electrical gremlins… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not aoverly farmiliar with them personally. But all the write up I have read all had favorable reviews. Problem most of the dudes that can afford them associate VW with the beetle, not the new one either.

The Phaeton is an amazing car.

If VW had wanted to move upscale, they should have done what Nissan and Toyota did - created a new brand. A major part of why people spend big money on a car is ego and status, to let people know that “mine is bigger than yours.” Driving up to the club in a VW just doesn’t cut it with these folks, no matter how good the car is. Funny that VW couldn’t figure this out in advance.

are you kidding me? who do you think makes audi, bentley, bugatti, and lamborghini?

the Phaeton is basically a Audi A8 right?

more or less.

That’s exactly my point. They should have known better than to try and sell it under the VW name.

did you not read my earlier post in this thread? the phaeton wasn’t made to generate a profit off of sales. it was more like a well designed ad campaign. it was designed to showcase the direction of Volkswagen and the technologies it has to offer.

Less. The A8 is aluminum and the Phaeton is steel.

Bump for back from the dead:

VW figures a new Phaeton would attract customers for whom the Jaguar XJ is too avant-garde, including American luxury consumers.

i thought the biggest difference was that the vw was offered in the 12cylinder(W12 or something??) the A8 was never offered in

Audi had a W12 option.

but we got it in the touaregggg. my landlord has one on cayenne wheels as a tow rig, shits hot

Somedude has one in a touareg as a tow rig shits hot
